The last leg of my All Kansas Counties Tour included the Great Bend Airport. Here you will find the B-29 Memorial Plaza. I enjoyed reading about the B-29 Superfortress, the early obstacles and the plane it became. Although, not very big, the memorial is nicely done paying tribute to all the men and women involved. Open air memorial with beautiful memorial plaques, gardens and helicopter and airplane. Beautiful areas to sit and reflect and privately thank those who served for our freedoms.

Small but important part of WWII history located at the Great Bend Airport. The few existing huge B~29 hangers are impressive insize.

The B-29 Memorial Plaza is just outside of town near the airport. It is all outside and has a miniature model of a B-29 and some history regarding the importance of the aircraft to the area and to WWII. It’s a quick stop and worth it for veterans and/or history buffs.
