Beautiful spot. My only problem was, it was not easy to get from the restaurant end to the sculpture end. Seems there are only pushbikes and we couldn't register on the app because we had a foreign Sim card.

NO visit to the Chiang Mai area would be complete without a visit to this peaceful lake.
A simple journey of barely ten miles brings you out to this water attraction where it is possible to drive right round the perimeter of the lake.
Its main draw though is for locals who come here in their hundreds to relax and eat a meal in scores of little thatched huts on the lakeside.
Food is available for tourists to buy and do the same thing, but I was there purely for sightseeing and there was a lot of that to do.
Apart from a walk by the lake it was also possible to go boating on it for a few baht.
Perhaps the most striking attraction here are the amazing rice straw figures created on open area.
They include everything from elephant and stag figures to bulls, peacocks, wild boar and even giant gorillas that it is possible to climb up a ladder to pose in their hand for a photo.
A beautiful spot with quite a variety of things to do and see. Worth a visit.

…including the pretty amazing thatched models, rice fields stretching towards the mountains behind and platform huts floating on the lake in which tourists can eat. It’s all pretty basic and not everything is kept up to standard but there is enough here to warrant a trip, especially for kids as they will love the models. Lots more to do earlier in the day as well such a boating and ATVs but we missed those.

Had a beautiful day here. However, there are some things to be aware of. It’s true that it’s an easy Grab ride from Chiang Mai to get here. But make sure you have a plan to get back. I could NOT get a Grab to pick me up and take me back to Chiang Mai. A Tiger Kingdom taxi who was shuttling folks around the lake took pity on me and drove me back, but by that time I had missed my flight. Missing my flight was for the best, though, because I got food poisoning (or traveler’s diarrhea, not sure which) from the lunch I ate there and was violently ill all night. Maybe rent a motorbike and bring your own lunch if you plan to visit.

Great getaway from the busy centre of Chiang Mai, this tranquil reservoir is located about 12 km north of the North Gate. There are bamboo sheds where you can order many Thai dishes and eat them at your leisure in this beautiful setting.

This lake is about 10 km away from Chiang Mai and a peaceful place to escape and relax in a sweet hut. Usually it is visited by local people.

The Huay Tung Tao reservoir is a place where locals go to to relax and spend a leisurely afternoon. You can rent one of the many huts around the perimeter of the reservoir, have a picnic or take pictures with the animal installations. There's not a lot to see or do, but it also means there is an opportunity to slow down. This probably shouldn't be a destination on its own but as a pitstop, it serves its purpose.

It's not far from the city center but it's not that great. It can be very busy. The water is brown and doesn't look so clean. In addition you have to pay an entry fee 5 times more than Thai people. I've found much more interesting place for free.

Peaceful park away from the busyness of Chiang Mai. Attractive, well kept lake with interesting sites to visit withint the park. Feed the fish on the lake, visit the King Kong park and various statues. There is a Cafe area. Easily reached by scooter or Grab car as not too far out of the city. There is a small entrance fee for tourists, free parking available once inside the park.

Highly recommend heading out here!!! You dont have to spend hours here if you dont want to since its not that far from the old city
We took our scooter out and absolutely loved it. We went around the entire lake chose a restaurant sat down had a nice meal, enjoyed the scenery and headed back. The scale of the lake and huts around it took us by suprise due to its size we thought it would be much smaller. So cool to see there were no tourists around and it was just flooded with the locals. Great way to see and experience how the locals hang out.
