What a beautiful and fantastic park. River and lake views, forests, open green spaces, everything is kept up so nicely and natural. Clean and plenty of parking areas.

Always a good time. Great sights and plenty of room. Never had any issues other than take something to sit on in the toilets. Plenty of trails and other things to keep kids busy. Just don't take the wee ones on the backbone trail itself,...More

A perfect day in October for a hike. We hiked the "Backbone Trail" Fantastic scenery. Did a little fishing. Checked out the Auditorium " and had a picnic lunch. I would recommend that you print a map from their website. There are several entrances. We...More

My wife and I were driving back from Galena, Illinois to Omaha last Sunday, and thought we'd take a small detour and check out the park. It was so worth it! The layout was a little confusing, with multiple entrances, but we lucked out when...More

We (me, my wife and my dog) went on a hike there this past weekend. It is definitely a beautiful park with a lot of opportunities for recreation. Though the water quality is unacceptably bad so don't swim unless you can bath right afterwards. Other...More

Our family of 8 came here for a day trip in mid-July on a Thursday with rain in the forecast. There were very few people on the trails and at the attractions. Which was great for us. The kids range in age from 5 to...More

We went here to hike and there are some basic, easy trails with good scenery. You could also mountain bike on most, if not all, of the trails. The bathrooms very primitive and don't smell great, but at least they have facilities and all of...More

This state park is a must see. Even with two children we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We camped in a tent at the South Lake Campground. The scenery was beautiful. Trails were well maintained. We hiked at several different locations throughout this state park. Many...More

This is a very basic park - lots of good trails and some parking and picnic areas, but pretty primitively bathroom facilities along the way. The views along the trails and by the creek are worth the visit, and it's a great place to relax...More

Hi, Looking to find out more info about the tent camping over Memorial Day weekend. I see most all of the sites are walk-up only, so wondering if we get there Friday morning if there will still be good spots, and which ones are the best. We have 2 kids, 12 & 9. Thanks in advance.

Actually we are planning on this weekend before we plan we have some doubts 1.Is the restrooms and everything is good and neat in that camping area? 2.Is there any bugs are there in that place?

Well, there are a variety of facilities including cabins that you can rent that looked very nice. As for bugs? Of course there were bugs, it's frickin' Iowa. But they weren't at all bad. We really liked it and it's well-kept.
How do you get to Richmond Springs? I can't find any info about it...and if I remember correctly, the signage at the park isn't the best.

It is very near the north entrance to the park which is off of county highway w-68. If coming from the east or west entrances- highway C-57, I think the signage that points you in the right direction will read "north flats... More
