LOL to the comment below about GAY HOOK UPs, we have been to this park multiple times and have never seen gay casual hookups. Pity the idiot below must know, right? Aside from that it's small but a perfect place for a little outdoor fun. Nice short trails and two playgrounds for those who are interested in bringing their kids out for some fresh air.

We love this park and it's become a family favorite. It's a wonderful park managed by SAYLOR Township.

Not many go here, which is great if you want to walk and see nature instead of some idiot coming along talking loudly to a friend. Or worse, alone and going, 'Hi', 'Hi', "HI!!!' as they approach, but you want only quiet so you ignore them.

Trails are good. You can hear birds and often see deer.

I have driven by this park so many times and finely planned a stop. I was pleasantly surprised at how big it was. It's a heavily wooded area so keep that in mind and bring your bug spray. The trail starts at the far end of the parking lot/road to the left of the red metal gate. Once you get in there you will find a nice wide gravel path, there is a wooden staircase that leads up to a playground/shelter area. If you keep going you will wind deeper into the woods. On the main trail you can hear the traffic outside the small park but a little deeper in it goes away. There are signs posted that the main gate closes at 8pm...something we were not aware of and our trip was cut a little short. A great stop and I can't wait to return and do some more exploring!!! Hidden gem!

This is an Iowa State park but the Saylor Township trustees manage it. Volunteers open and close locked gates on the entrances each day. Twenty years ago the park had some crime problems so the state let the township and local sheriff tightly control the park and that stopped the crime problems. Now it is a very safe place to visit. The park is a big tract of rolling hills covered in thick woods. There is at least one big shelter house and several picnic tables. There is no camping. There is a big children's playground area out near the highway entrance. I live exactly seven blocks East of this park.

Beautiful park...You don't realize the amount of timber that's there...Family friendly with target golf and plenty of tables for relaxing...Well maintained for the most part...but be carful driving near the park on 2nd Ave as I hit a deer just in front of the park 2 nights ago....Go and enjoy...Have fun!

This must be the smallest state park ever. There is a nice playground for the kids, and places for picnicking. However the best part of the park is kept under a locked gate, and must be “rented” to use it-unusual for a state park. They also have a sand flea problem in the children’s area.

There are two play areas and shelters. One is small and by parking area. The other is east of parking area but a short walk on paved drive will get you there. The trails are very nice and a small creek runs through the park. The gates are locked at 8pm so go get a peaceful walk in and enjoy.

More people should give Margo Frankel a try. It is a beautiful place to walk and enjoy the oak and walnut trees in peace.

This place is a small, but serene and quiet park just north of the state capital of Iowa.
Right off a busy highway, state route 415.It offers over 136 acres of mainly hiking trails.
Some have gravel trails and others are just mowed footpaths through woods. There is a small playground and pit toilets are nearby. There is also a picnic shelter. Plenty of parking but by no means are horses or camping of any kind are permitted here. Dogs MUST be on a leash at all times. Winter hours of operation are sunrise to sunset.
The trail I took just north and west of the parking area led me straight through the woods and although one gets the feeling of being "out in the boonies" you can hear the traffic behind you very loudly. This is nice place to be at to unwind, take the kids to play, take pictures and have a picnic but thats about it. In my opinion, its a nice place to visit.
