When we went on a Saturday morning in July, it was 4 blocks long, and spilling out into the side streets on either side. All of the streets had been blocked off, and it was wall-to-wall people! A circular traffic flow had been established - shuffle along with the crowd or you might get bumped into... In addition to actual farm produce, there were crafts, jewelry, wines, condiments, baked goods, a huge diversity of prepared food, and more! Musicians played on nearly every street corner. Definitely an experience to remember.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 July 2023

It covers a half dozen blocks downtown. The mix of vendors is amazing. A few musical groups were also performing. The most fun part was seeing all the sweet dogs that people were walking. Highly recommended.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 11 September 2023

We stayed at the Surety hotel a block away and could see it from our room. We were able to buy food at the market and bring into Pints bar for a bloody Mary and other beverages. Sat outside and watched people walk by. We tried to make it down to everything the market had but missed a couple side streets. What a great find on a sunny Iowa September day!!!!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 September 2023

There was some farm produce but it seemed to be mostly different food booths and other products. My daughter enjoyed an interactive experience with one of the musicians performing on the corner. She was able to play some musical instruments.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 22 October 2023

Large market, wide variety of options - fresh produce, baked goods, shirts, art, jewelry, lots of options for food breakfast/lunch, easier to get around when it first opens at 7 than later before it closes at noon

We could have walked from our hotel, nope, took shuttle. Happy we did, requested driver to drop us off at further end so we could walk back to hotel at end of visit. Driver took us for a joy ride around town, a must see. Opposite side of this FM on Friday night they had a Symphony. Near the five gold domed State Capitol. It was getting crowded at 4pm with all the lawn chairs.
Iowa is lovely, I'm in love! Several pubs and dining to find.
Lots of people, all FM are crowded. This one is pretty tight with people, elbow to elbow. Very hard to pass anyone, impossible. Unless you walk out on sidewalk, out of main drag.
Live music, lots of food, lots of fresh veggies which are reasonably priced. We bought greenbeans.
It took us an hour to walk, located on three streets combined of seven blocks approximately. When we saw food sections we turned around and kept walking. Remember to wear good supporting sneakers not sandals, lots of walking. Bring your canvas bags for shopping. Hours are eight to twelve Saturdays.
Parking - you have to pay meters M-Sat.

Been coming for years now and it never disappoints. Variety and selection of vendors is fantastic, something for everyone. I always bring home something unique.

I have been to a farmers market is almost every state and this was average - cute little market in downtown Des Moines, very active in the summer time and like others said - theres stuff for everyone to do. Vendors and prices were okay - if you're in Iowa and are not sure what to do over the weekend, this might be a good couples activity.

Too many people, too many dogs. Rotten parking situation. Fraudulent vendors buying produce at hyvee and fairway then turning around and reselling it. Fraud! Perpetrators of fraud. Lousy experience.

Sadly, it is not open until 1st of May. Some of the organic farmer’s have tunnels. Bridgewater Farms delivered fresh spinach this week to Gateway Market.

It is open every Saturday during the summer months. Big party event with all the music and entertainment for a good time in Des Moines. For health purposes, please keep the dogs away from the food area...
