Great Place for a Break

A gem in the city! Great trail or grassy area to hang out by the lake. Well manicured, clean restrooms.

This park is gorgeous and is perfect if you want a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. A paved pathway circles the lake, and is about two miles in length. It's perfect for walking, running, or biking! There are also plenty of spots in which to soak in the lake on a hot day. If you want,... More

This is a lovely place for a walk or bike ride. The trail is well lit for walks after dark. We love walking here after a great dinner in Des Moines. Lots to do and fun for all ages!

The trails around the lake are wonderful. While they are especially well suited to pedestrians they work for cyclists as well. The bridge over the lake is a work of art. A spot the city should be very proud of. One would never no it was for years the site of a flooded out derelict hotel.

This is a fabulous park that my wife and i visited most days to walk off the generous food portions we had at mealtimes!! Really well kept park and lake with good facilities. I particularly liked the directions for walking, keep to the right and do not stand on the path if stopping for photographs, which prevents congestion.

Wonderfull place to walk where you are able to see Eagles return each year to nest and have their young. People greet you in a friendly matter as we pass. View of our State Capitol with it's gold dome at end of the lake. You can rent a paddle boat or launch your own boat for fun on the water.... More

Stopped in on Memorial Day. A little congested but that was to be expected. People in water vehicles and swimming. Pleasant place to sit and watch the world. Very clean.
