The lake was a little smaller than I anticipated, but we rented stand up paddle boards and had a great time! If the wind is higher than 16 mph or they see 'white caps' they will stop renting for at least 30 minutes and then...More

This is a great little lake with a 2 mile walking trail around it. It was pretty busy after work (around 5:30), but not crowded. All sorts of people walk, run, bike, kayak, etc. It's a beautiful little park close to downtown. Highly recommend.

We only had a short time to visit this park. We could have spent two full days there between the extensive trails, swimming, and kayaking available.

After a warm June day in Des Moines, we went to Gray's Lake for a evening walk. The light breeze made our walk very pleasant as we rounded the 2 mile perimeter. Lots of families and folks out walking.

The south entrance and area is the most grill friendly part of the park. For a another nearby family place with grills I would recommend Union park and another not too far is Cottonwood park near Saylorville Dam...
