An amazing experience! I just can't believe how beautiful this building is. The entire building is simply gorgeous. The library is possibly the prettiest part of the building. A true gem. I just don't know why I have never heard of this state capital building....More

I have visited many State Capitols over the years. The Iowa State Capitol is clearly in my top 3. The building is spectacular (both the outside and the inside). It will take you hours to look at everything the building has to offer. If you...More

Whilst in town for a wedding we found time to visit the capital building. It was well worth the time as it is such a lovely building. In was nice to just wander round with no one supervising you. The library is amazing.

You can do a self guided tour or with a guide. I did both because you need to be with a guide to get to the catwalk at the top of the rotunda. You need to be able to climb steep stairs but it is...More

Okay, let me first state that I write this with some bias...I grew up within one block of this beautiful building. It is the only state Capitol building to have five domes and is one of the largest in the country. The main dome shines...More

We were going to take the self guided tour, until a staff member said we could join the guided tour that hadn't long started. So glad we did. We learnt so much more. Kae, our tour guide was very knowledgable. She told us lots of...More

There is NOTHING like the Iowa Capitol. Every time I walk in, I get an euphoric feeling. It's such a majestic place. Visit when the legislature is in session. And take a tour--lots of interesting tidbits.

The 5 gold domes on the outside were stunning enough but the inside was equally beautiful. We went on a Saturday and it was very quiet. There was a free 1.5 hour guided tour but we opted to go on our own. The self-guided information...More

Beautifully crafted and preserved, this capitol is well worth a visit, if you can handle lots of stairs.

I have been in many beautiful building but Iowa's Capital is on of the prettiest. Murals, seven marbles embedded in the staircases, open spiral staircases in the library, mosaics that cover an entire wall......gorgeous.

The state capital takes 1/2 hr to 2 hrs depending on how much you read and enjoy the displays. The natural museum in the building next to it takes about equal amount of time. We went with a teenager who was not into it... More
