A peaceful little lake with a lot of activities available for all walks of life. The walking/running path was excellent especially when highlighted with the fantastic bridge. The shelters were a wonderful low-cost venue for a wedding with nearby restrooms and parking.

This park has really upped its game. Recently they completed a nice bike/walking trail all of the way around the lake (about 5 miles). The path is smooth wide concrete and has several scenic bridges. They also drained and dreged the lake so the water is deeper and cleaner and built multiple fishing jetties and docks. In a couple of years this should be a top notch fishing destination. Other items my family enjoys are picnic areas, multiple playgrounds, and the beach which is nice as far as Iowa lake beaches go and has concessions, boat rentals, showers, and changing rooms.

Easter Lake park in Des Moines is located in the SE corner of the city, touching the countryside. A huge project is (for the most part) now completed, leaving the lake full of water and the park serene and welcoming. New bike trails have been added along with a bridge, connecting the two sides. This park is an ideal day trip for a picnic, kayaking, running, biking, or a Sunday drive.

As a child my grandparents lived close to Easter Lake. In the summer we would walk to the lake and spend the day at the beach so much fun! We had bets on who could swim to the island and back the fastest.

After a lengthy lake and watershed restoration project, the lake is again full. Fishing will not be good until next year as they get the lake re-stocked. The 12' walking trail completely circles the lake now with the installation of a pedestrian bridge at the west end of the lake. New sand is in place at the swimming beach and there are multiple shelters on the south side of the lake available for gatherings. Amazing how close it is to the city center, yet still with a very rural feel when you get on the trail.

The lake is still being dredged, but it is worth stopping to see the only covered bridge in Polk County, Iowa.

Once all the projects are completed, this will be a nice little gem in the city. It was pretty, but water silted up.

Currently the lake is being dredged, but once projects are complete the lake will be beautiful again. The park boasts two playgrounds, a beach, fishing areas, a covered bridge, a baseball diamond, volleyball, bike trail, and nature trails. I can't wait for the lake to be up and running again.

Fishing wasn't that good for us and people around us were pretty rude. I wasn't happy with our visit and will instead go to other county and state parks out of Des Moines. We were sitting as a family and people walked right through the area where we were eating.
The swimming area, to me, smelled awful.
Won't be going back. It might be better after they draw down and refill the lake but the rude people will still be there.

There were Federal and state grants given tomtotally drain East Lake and dredge out the accumulated silt. The workers are putting in rocks to stabilize the shore and putting in structures to reduce dirt flow back into the lake. The state will restock the fish once construction is completed in the Fall of 2017. Right now the lake is just a big mud hole.
