14-Day Cycling Tour in the Indian Himalayas from Shimla

The 900 km tour from Shimla to Manali is one of the ultimate challenges in the Indian Himalayas! This tour includes 14 days of pure fun cycling through two of the most remote regions of the Himalayas: the Kinnaur and Spiti valleys. We cross isolated valleys, visit traditional villages and cross two high mountain passes, Kunzum La (4558 m) and Rothang Pass (3980 m). The tour offers us spectacular views of snow-capped peaks, ancient Buddhist monasteries, raging rivers and glaciers. The roads are partially fortified, but we also have loose gravel. Best time June to October. Tour starts in Shimla and ends in Manali

Visited Key monsatery in July 2019 duirng the bike ride to Spiti valley.. From Kaza, we planned a day for sightseeing to Kibber, Langza and Key Monsatery + Komic and Hikkim... all of these can be easily done in a day.. Key monsatery provides a very good view of the river and snow capped peaks in the background.. we were fortunate that the monks there let us go inside the dark caves meant for meditation; that was like a complete different feeling, to imagine monks sitting there in peace for hours and probably days/ months.

With renovation underway and the modern elevation, it is hard to believe that the Kye monastery is more than 1000 years old. A large number of Buddhist monks, nuns and lamas live here. We were greeted by one of the lamas, who took us around the monastery and explained us about the idols and ideals. He also made us tea with the special herbs found there. It was refreshing and warmed us from inside. There are cave like rooms facing the mountains, where you can spend some time meditating. This place is a house to a large number of Buddhist scriptures.

Kye Monastery is a famous Tibetan Monastery in Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh and is located at an altitude of approximately 4,000 meters above sea level. It is around 10Kms from Kaza. This beautiful monastery is positioned on a picturesque hilltop and is very close to the Spiti River, in the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh. It's hard to believe, but this spectacular monastery is at least a thousand year old and is the largest monastery in Spiti Valley. It was established in the 11th century and it still houses ancient It has been looted by Mongols, destroyed by fire and earthquake by never lost its eternal charm. Buddhist scrolls and paintings. It also houses unique wind instruments and important manuscripts. A large number of Buddhist monks, nuns, and lamas live in this religious training center to receive their religious education here. This is another monastery by Tibetan Buddhist settlers in India. Like Tiger's Nest Monastery in Bhutan this one is also at high mountain. However the climb is just a few hundred steps and easily possible for all.
