My son goes to school in Decorah, so my first visit to the Vesterheim was out of a feeling of cultural obligation. Boy, was I surprised how much I enjoyed this museum! This place is a gem. It is larger than it initially appears from the outside (There are boats in there! And a complete house!), yet it was not... More

This is a treasure of Norwegian history and artifacts, including a ship, log cabin, pipe organs and many other unique displays of items. (They even have bottled Voss Water available for purchase!) The attached gift shop has alot of special Norwegian/Scandanavian items, including Dale of Norway sweaters. Overall a great place to see, plus I believe they still offer a... More

Excellent staff accompanies a very cozy museum. Plenty of exhibits filled with wonderful artifacts and beautiful art. Plenty to see and read. The only downfall is that there is no historical timeline that shows the visitor the immigration trends of Norwegians to the United States/North America. More information on famous Norwegian-Americans would be beneficial. Either way, a great and informative... More

This was the highlight of our trip. There was a lot to see. Kids enjoyed the rich heritage. We will go here again.

Fantastic museum even for those of us who are not of Norwegian heritage. The staff is friendly and helpful, the museum store has interesting things. I love taking their classes. Recommend the museum and t he classes wholeheartedly.

This place has a lot of Norwegian history, but also give good picture of area's history. The amount and selection of carved furniture is worth the price. Be certain to have couple hours, more if you want tour. happy trails

I must admit that I was reluctant to visit Vesterheim. After 2 1/2 hours, we had to get on the road and I was disappointed we couldn't stay longer.

If you're of Norwegian heredity this site has valuable insight into how our ancestors lived when first coming to America! I was amazed by a cabin built of one log! What a tree it must have been. If you love art this is also a wonderful visit. The artistry involved in such simple things as butter mold is impressive! I... More

If you're into things Norwegian, this place is for you. I grew up in Minnesota so am familiar with Norwegian stuff and there are some authentic and worthy exhibits on display. Of particular interest to me was the exhibition of weavings done by a woman from Minneapolis. I was awed by her skill and choices of subject and her later... More
