Art museum with a focus on Grant Wood and Marvin Cone. There are also special exhibitions. The portions of the building are connected by an atrium, that is definitely postmodern. There are a few pieces outdoors, and some murals in the neighborhood. The staff was quite helpful, there is a lounging area and a lovely museum store. Parking at the rear is free for visitors.

First of all- a beautiful building. They recently took over adjacent building for an expansion.
But the reason to visit is to see the best anywhere collection of native son Grant Wood.Every think from paintings to his studio door.
Add a beautiful gift shop and you have many reasons to spend time here.

A lovely art museum with a modern twist. Part of the building is much older than the other. But somehow it looks cohesive. A good collection focusing on Iowan artists. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Beautiful art museum. Loved the roman busts. They have a beautiful sitting area next to the gift shop. Check out the cool art dispenser on the stairs behind the ticket counter. You can buy art for $5!

They have the world's largest collection of paintings by Grant Wood. A variety are on display in the first floor gallery.

I applaud this small museum's thoughtful exhibitions. However, for a museum noted for its Grant Wood collection, there really aren't many on view! The museum has an excellent small store - selling original artwork from their local community, as well as traditional museum shop goods. Worth a visit.

I debated about marking this very good or average rating, deciding on the higher rating as this is definitely a worthwhile place to visit.
- The architecture of the building in itself is worth the trip.
- The first floor exhibit of Grant Wood and contemporaries is excellent.
- The permanent exhibit of Roman art in every day life on the second floor was fun to see.
- I enjoyed the cleverness of turning an old cigarette vending machine into an art dispensing machine which actually works (it was located on the stairs between the first and second floors.)
- There were several temporary exhibits on view as well.
- You can also make a trip to the Grant Wood Studio which is run by the museum at a different location. I ran out of time to get there, but expect it would be a pleasant stop.
The museum has a decent sized, easy access parking lot, though I wish it had a more obvious sign. The lot is in back of the building and has a small sign so I missed it at first. I was focused on traffic right after the light turned green and on following my map (which sent me to the front of the building), meaning I missed the parking lot and had to circle the block. There is also on-street parking and a parking ramp nearby, but the parking lot is free and everything else requires payment.
The building is new so it is easily accessible and they appeared to have a courtesy wheelchair if someone in your group is mobility challenged.
The gift shop had tasty shortbread for sale from a bakery in nearby Mount Vernon, which I'd recommend.

Having grown up in this area and knowing the history of some of our most notable artisit we are so fortunate to use our art collection to both share and view anytime. The CRMA brings in on loan some of the best art any city our size could ever imagine. Beautiful building with easy casual viewing. Very proud of this site.

The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art has a wonderful space that could be used perfectly to have much more pieces to exhibit.
One of the problems is that it is limited to show the art of Iowans and therefore is very limited.
If the Museum opens its doors for temporary exhibits coming from other States it would come to a very attractive place and will be rewarded for the abundant presence of the public.
This, so far, is not the case.
Nevertheless, there are some sculptures that really deserve the visit.
