Located at the old Scott County poor farm on South Main St. in Scottsburg, the Scott County Heritage Center and Museum is a Scott County historic treasure for visitors. Two floors of displays highlight significant historical moments in Scott County. A small gift shop sells books and other items of Scott County history. With friendly, knowledgable staff, this is an enjoyable place to visit and filled with interesting exhibits. Interested in ghost stories, don't forget to ask about the haunted history of the building.

Our six-person club came to Scottsburg to visit the Interurban site at Lake Iola. While visiting Scottsburg, we learned of the heritage center and Museum. We had a delightful, informative and fun visit to the Museum. Well organized, very neat and well maintained, glad we stopped in.

I have been here approximately four times. It is run all by volunteers. The museum is set up as a self guided tour but the volunteers are happy to answer any questions you may have. They also have a section to look up old records about your ancestry. This part does cost a small portion but its not much. We had heard that the place was haunted so we were hoping that in the day time, we may get a little bit of our own experience, and we did! When it happened, we asked the volunteers about it. They were shy to speak with us about it at 1st until we told them about our own experience and then they told us many of their own experiences. If you feel something soft rubbing against your leg while you are there, don't worry, it's just the Ghost Cat. I do give a donation when I am there because I do know that although its free, it must cost the county quite a bit to maintain the place. It's worth the drive. Even if you don't know anyone in Scott County, just learning the history of the area, and the many different histories of Indiana is fun!

This is a free museum all about this area. We came to look around and see some of the history. It had many items that were donated from area families and were interesting. Some of my family are from here and they are listed in some of the books here. It is definitely a walk down memory lane.

When we first moved to this town in southern Indiana, we visited this museum to become more familiar with the history of the area. This heritage center is a tribute to the past through the displays of photographs, furniture, furnishings, and other memorabilia.

Small towns typically have some of the most fun museums.

This museum is no exception. Run by two delightful Seniors volunteers who know everything there is to know about the area. Just ask.

The building is a real beauty DNS houses lots of great exhibits. Enjoy.

My Wife and I enjoyed touring the heritage center. The exhibits were laid out with some chronology, however, most had mixed or eclectic themes. We were primarily interested in the war of 1812 history for the pigeon roost massage, a state historic site close by. The Museum had some interesting displays on it and the county's involvement in the civil war. Definitely worth a stop if you love fun local history! The enterance fee was a suggested donation.

The Scott County Museum is a great place to take the kids and learn about local history. The displays are updated ever so often so you can visit again and again to continue learning.
