Beautiful views and 4 museums included in the ticket price. Took about an hour to walk around.

The museum on Pylos is one of the best we’d seen so far in Greece, very modern, lots of information and interesting artefacts.

There are also two underwater museums, one showing more detail from shipwrecks in the area. Definitely worth a visit and stunning views. A quick wander down into town has loads of authentic Greek restaurants by the pier and some delicious gelato you can enjoy while watching the waves.

Amazing for a day trip, the castle was well preserved and and museum was fantastic! It's next to the beach as well, it was just wonderful.

You’ll probably end up spending about an hour wandering around this site - a combined castle, 3 small museums, a mosque turned into a church - and magnificent viewpoint to the sea, the city and its surroundings … Is that worth €6…?

We thought so.

There are more dramatic castles to see on Peloponnese - Mystra, for example. But this one is interesting because of all the old (quite amazing) artifacts displayed - and especially the church.

When you enter the old church and look up it’s obvious that it was born as a mosque and later baptized as a Christian place of worship. Now, who are the aggressors?

Quite expensive to enter, €6, €3 if over 65 EU resident, free parking immediately outside the main gate. As a castle I found this less impressive than the nearby Methoni castle for half the price. The difference is probably for the couple of additions here. A nice small museum with locally discovered artefacts, a small shipwreck museum and a sign to an underwater antiques building that appeared locked and the church in the centre of the site. Collectively perhaps worth the extra money. For the castle itself, it is an impressive largely intact structure. Less so the older perimeter walls which are harder to access and have no walks on them. The newer inner fort, is much more complete being built to withstand more modern canon etc is a substantial defence.

Very interesting, incredible view don’t miss going up the wall around the inner castle
The Byzantine church is a mosque that was turned into a church .

We walked up some stone steps from Pylos and was pleased to find the castle still open at 6pm (closing time was 7.30pm). Could have done with a little longer inside - we left at closing time - but we still managed to get round the three small museums ( you need to wear a mask indoors) and the beautiful grounds. Staff very friendly and helpful. Some astonishing antiquities inside. Really fascinating and beautifully preserved. Tickets very reasonably priced as well.

Pilos (or Pylos), is a picturesque town by the sea, on the Messania peninsula. Formerly known as Navarino and location of significant naval battles. The Castle is worth a visit. Peloponnese, Greece #Pilos #Pylos #Peloponnese, #Greece

It is easy to find this place. There is a small parking just to the entrance of the castle. The place is well organized. There are amazing view from the top of the citadel. The archeological museum is small but it is designed simple and clear. Cons: The information about Navarino battle is not far enough.

Yes, there's the acropolis at the top of the hill and great views. But I liked the museums and exhibits and particularly that you could lay hands on pots (amphora) that are the best part of 3,000 years old! The museums provide lots of information on the discovery of wrecks and under-water archaeology and the site is a pleasant walk-around.

A must-see in the area, a very nice historical place with a great sea view. The ticket cost is 2 euros for the visit which is really worth it. An impressive castle which enhanced our fantasy and sent us back to the ancient life
