You have to stop here and check out the great old bridge and the beautiful gorge with its awesome river and colour of the water, not only that you get to see people throw themselves off a perfectly good bridge which is great entertainment as some hesitate with fear and others simply jump, lots of fun to watch 😂

The old bridge itself is great to look at & to walk across. The middle point is dominated by a modern bungy-jumping station which, while fun for some, spoils the aesthetics for others. Next to the bridge there's a vantage point, cafe & toilets.

The impressive and historic Kawarau Suspension Bridge forms part of the Gibbston Valley/Arrow River Bridges Trail and we wished we were crossing it on the bikes! Sadly, the weather packed in on the day of our scheduled ride from Gibbston Valley Winery, so we aborted and drove down to the Bungy/Zip Line car park for a wander round on foot instead. No takers for the adventure activities in the freezing rain, but still great to take in the views down the gorge and marvel at the impressive and well-preserved construction.

This was a last minute stop for us and we were so glad we did. The view from the bridge over the gorge down to the water below was spectacular with the clear blue water. The bridge an amazing feat in itself in the history behind it. To see the original AJ Hackett Bungy site and still operational was great. Was fun watching people bungy and zip line. Worth a vist and free to walk the bridge and look around.

The bridge is famous for the Hollywood movie, Lord of the Rings. We were driven in a group with AATKings and the views of the bridge with the river was amazing.

Wonderful to be able to walk or bike over this beautiful bridge which is on the Gibbston Valley Trail. Great views, including watching bungee jumpers

The bridge, famed by the highly acclaimed Hollywood movie, Lord of the Rings, provides excellent view of the river and the long bridge over it. It is the site for Bungy jumping and we saw scores of young enthusiastic young boys and girls jumping off the bridge, a great sight. The viewing platform, very well designed, provides very good view. Highly scenic.

The 120-metre long bridge is famed in part for being in the Lord of the Rings. It was designed about 1880, and one of the first of its design and wind-resistant characteristics.

Great spot to stop and watch a few crazy people jump off the bridge! Love that part of the proceeds of the nearby bungee jump place keep the suspension bridge in action. Beautiful spot.

But I did join plenty of people on a viewing platform to jump. The wait to jump appears to be pretty long, enough so that they cut off reservations for jumps long before closing time. Seems like they are pretty understanding to people who chicken out at last moment, and will let you walk away and the return later if you regain your nerve. The end of the jump involves hanging upside down until a raft comes out to pick you up, which I would have hated, but perhaps the others did not mind it.
