This was an interesting museum. We though this would be mainly about lighthouses, both in Michigan City as well as the Great Lakes, but that was not the case. On the ground floor, and most of the 2nd you found a lot of history about...More

This is the 1858 lighthouse museum that sits away from the shore of Lake Michigan. It is not the red and white lighthouse that is on the lakeshore. This one has green grass around it where you can safely walk if the weather is decent....More

This lighthouse is open to the public, there is an admission charge. Inside are lots of exhibits that are about the lighthouse and history of the area. It's the lighthouse that was built in 1858.

We walked the boardwalk all the way to the lighthouse. Went up the stairs to the front of it. Its a gorgeous view and a lovely walk. Shore birds are starting to appear. You van see the Indiana Lakeshore Dunes from here.

This is a great view into the past of this entire area, not only the shipping industry, but the daily life of folks living there. Great docent to enlighten you on the contents and history.

Beautiful building and location. Somewhat dated museum but make sure you ask about the Eastland riverboat disaster of 1915. Get the book at the museum. You'll not get on a tour boat without thinking about what happened 100+ years ago. Enjoy

Old Lighthouse Museum is in beautiful repair, but it looks like it came out right out of a 1920's magazine. The paintings, the furnishings are perfect. The views are for taking pictures.

This is an excellent museum, full of area history. You can tour on your own, but there are people to explain things, that makes it a lot more interesting. Be sure to notice the chain link fence outside, where each link represents a person who...More

Walk out to end and around the base of light house, when safe to do so. It is a nice walk a time of day. If waves, or ice are over concrete it not safe. Enjoy the fews. You can see Chicago's skyline if clear.
