The Madison Railroad Station museum is part of the History Center Campus which includes a local history museum and a restored caboose. The station museum is in the renovated station that was erected on the site in 1895. Much original equipment is still in the museum along with numerous interpretive displays that provide a very good feel for the construction of the railroad itself as well as how it interacted with the city.

This is a restored railroad station that sits on West First Street. The History Museum is behind it & a restored caboose is to the West of it. The admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Very nice displays. Someone knew what they were doing!...More

Great pictures! This is definitely a local museum, but very well done and you'll learn a lot. If you are mobility-challenged, this will be a good place for a visit.

Thank you for your nice comments. We are a local museum funded entirely through donations, but we keep working on improvements. Please come back again if you can. Maybe we'll have some new exhibits.

Great historian showing where the station was located, how it was used and when it was in operation. The flood of 1937 wiped it out and he shared how high up the flood waters came into the town of Madison. He was a delight and...More

The Railroad Museum is fun. Make sure you get the extra pass to see the caboose and the outer building. They both have extras to offer. The main museum offers so much about Madison and Jefferson County's past. I enjoyed walking around and seeing all...More

The limited coverage of the railroad history in Madison was very informative and concise. Great for a brief overview.

Interesting facts about the railroad in Madison. Especially interesting was the history of the Madison Incline - a very steep grade track which was the only way for trains to get in or out of Madison. The Incline is still in Madison and can be...More

This museum was small but reasonably priced. I loved the old red caboose outside. I love trains and railroad history. This museum is worth a quick visit.

I congratulate Madison for their efforts in embracing the unique history of the city. That included the railroad station that was used for their inclined railway. It's between the museum and the Lanier Mansion, so visit all three!

My wife and I visited the museum and the adjacent railroad station. They are both nice, but the museum is a must see!

Very interesting museum, gives a really good picture of the history of the settlers in the area, and especially about the railroad. The old station building is part of the museum, and an old, original caboose is preserved. Museum has great staff, with a lot...More
