I took my granddaughters to the courthouse just so they could take a look inside. I haven't been there in some time and was surprised to be greeted by a deputy when we went inside. He was very nice and stated I could not bring my phone onto the premises. So off we went to put it in the car and came back. My girls had some questions for the deputy and he was so nice and helpful. He even gave them both a Sheriffs badge. We walked the floors and one of the women in an office gave them a piece of candy. They had a great time looking at that old building and climbing the steps. We had a great time and they loved the visit.

Great place inside.Word of warning! Do not bring your cellphone! It is not allowed inside the building and security will not hold it for you. If Circuit Court is not in session, it is the nicest of all of the buildings rooms.

This is a beautiful building. They have really kept this up. Beautiful at night with all the lights. Understand it is beautiful at Christmas time and when the snow falls.

Beautiful building outside. Take a few picture and move on. My wife and I love historical sites and buildings. This government building you would think was in a Russian city during the cold war. The building built and supported by taxpayer money is off limits to any body who does not strip down surrendering all electronic devices. I fully understand why a courtroom, one or two rooms within the structure might have security on the days of court however why is the whole building on lockdown. They taxpayers of this county should be upset at the airport type security just to enter. Officers and equipment must cost the taxpayers at least $200,000 a year. We have been to courthouses in some of the top cities in the US and have never seen one so needlessly guarded. Beautiful courthouses with their decor and construction from long ago are a way to connect to the past. Fort Worth has gorgeous wood throughout theirs, all across this great country we have traveled in our retirement and never have found such a ignorant use of taxpayer money and at the same time blocking the people from enjoying the history it represents. We toured the mint in Texas (they did keep our phones) and several building in Washington DC that even though they have security to check us going in we were allowed to keep our phones and cameras. What in your courthouse is so special that it cannot stand to have a photo taken. What LaPorte secret are you hiding? I can't imagine how this every got started. Did the police have pull on the committee that would set up jobs for at least (when we were there) two full time officers. Did someone have a safety metal passthrough device that they wanted to rent or sale to the county and knew this would supply an endless stream of income for them. How much more intelligent would it be to set these things up like the other courthouses in our great country and have these devices and officers used on court days only in the actual courtroom areas only. We have been to your LaPorte History museum, this is an excellent example of what a museum should be, well organized and friendly faces welcoming people to enjoy and share your history. Possibly some of the people who run this museum will share their intelligence and understanding with those that are in control of your courhouse and one of these days we may be able to view your guarded treasures that are owned and supported by, we the people.

The main focal point of Downtown LaPorte, this building is historic and photogenic. Looks like it probably looked 150 years ago.

I did a short walk through town and walked by this building. I lived the large Indian statue. The coloring of the building is quite unique.

Other then it being one of the oldest courthouses in Indiana, it is a place of business.
The records department has books from the 1800's however they still keep records this way rather then data bases. The sculpture of the Indian with the broken arrow faces east. The place has been under remodeling for over a year. It is really not a place to sight see. The parking has a two hour limit and can be quiet hard to find.
