This park used to be a Girl Scout camp. I camped here as a Scout & have fond memories. Now it's a county park with hiking, picnicking & exercise equipment. This is considered one of the headwaters of the Little Calumet River.
We come to hike. There's 4 trails, though trail 1 isn't much. We always do Trail 4, which is 2.5 miles if you include the 2 spurs. Muddy & buggy is the case in the summer, though we didn't have much trouble with bugs this time. The trail has 3 or 4 hills & is rated "vigorous". I would rate it moderate. If you start the trail clock wise, the hills become less of an issue.
The floating trail over the pond is my favorite part of the trail.
Trails 2 & 3 can be added for longer loops.
They have a park office. Restrooms & a Environmental Education Center that I think they also rent out for parties. Pick up a brochure outside the office & it gives you a map of the property!
