Wonderful museum in downtown Indianapolis. There is a parking ramp available. They will validate your parking. The imax theater is very large. The displays are beautifully done and informative. I recommend a visit and you will not be disappointed.

Super info about state and people born and raised here! Loved the area with photos and names, most of whom I knew, but did not knew they were from Indiana! Also loved the information about native americans, including info on what atricities were committed- honest reporting! Appreciated learning about Ku Klux Klan, and that Indiana’s original inhabitants came from Kentucky snd points south, explaining why they are so conservative and how they have feared change since ever. As a transplant to Evansville, I could not figure this out and I appreciate finding the answers to my questions at the museum!

Also had a great lunch of salad with chicken, brie, walnuts, squash, spinach… yum! And it was not teeny-tiny!

Only went here because it was stormy during a morning we had in Indianapolis and we got in free through our science museum membership.

What a lucky break for us as this is a fabulous museum. The first floor is about the natural history of Indiana and, believe it or not, is super interactive and great for kids. They also have an exhibit of random artifacts but make it super fun and interactive. The Children’s Museum across town should be taking notes.

The second floor is the history of Indiana as a state from European settlement to present day. Not as interesting for little ones but still worthwhile and our kids hung in there.

Had lunch at the cafe, which was surprisingly good. (don’t miss the corn chowder soup if it is on the menu), had a kids menu, and was a relaxing place to eat.

Underground parking garage is attached to the museum. $4 parking with paid admission to the museum (ask for coupon at admission if they don’t give it to you). On a nice day, museum backs up to White River State Park canal and makes for a great walk.

Enjoy seeing the different Indiana history especially famous person and politically related. Also, has a huge IMAX screen to watch short documentaries but also regular movies. Being a member is not since plenty of state historic sites to use pass and discounts at other museums with their particular affiliation.

Wow. I was staying at the hotel across the street and had a day to kill in Indy. The front desk person suggested this museum, and I was beyond impressed. This museum is top-notch. What a jewel. The exhibits were beautifully curated. I spent almost the entire day there. I was able to have tea in the L.S. Ayres tearoom. Service and food was amazing. I would highly recommend the tea when at the museum. Fabulous experience from beginning to end!

We ended up going to the museum as a last minute idea. We were there from 3:00 to 5:00 and basically had the place to ourselves. We really enjoyed our visit. There were so many things to see and read about. We were very glad we decided to check it out.
