Hinkle Fieldhouse has reigned as one of the nation's great sports arenas...

Hinkle Fieldhouse has reigned as one of the nation's great sports arenas for more than eight decades. The classic facility was constructed in 1928 and it has stood up to the test of time, maintaining the splendor, character and atmosphere that made it one of the nation's most famous basketball arenas for nearly a century. Hinkle Fieldhouse was home to Indiana High School basketball's "Hoosier Hysteria" tournament until 1971 and is currently home to Butler basketball and volleyball. The current capacity after the most recent renovation is 9,100. The Fieldhouse was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. Hinkle is open during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for free self-guided tours. Tickets are required for home athletic contests.

The renovation of the fieldhouse did not disappoint. The floor is the original floor that has been kept up impeccably. Opportunity to get close to the players since there isn't much distance between the floor and the fans.

I was able to attend a BU exhibition game and very excited to see the nostalgia of Hinkle Fieldhouse. I was told that renovations were done in the off season, which really disappointed. I wanted to see more of the natural look of the field-house as I could. But overall it looked really good, and up to date. A little... More

And in Indiana, basketball is about as close as it gets to a religion. For non-Hoosiers, it should be noted that this building was built before but named after Paul D (Tony) Hinkle, legendary Butler University coach who was to Butler basketball what John Wooden (also a Hoosier) was to UCLA. For basketball fans in general, this was the site... More

We attended the very first exhibition basketball game after the renovation and enjoyed it very much. Even in the "cheap seats" we could see everything. Food and restrooms are conveniently located.

Watching college basketball in the historic Hinkle Fieldhouse is a lot of fun. The cheerleaders are great and of course seeing Blue is fun. No alcohol is served

this fieldhouse is history all over the place. Some of the best basketball games EVER have been played in this place. Its part of the history of indiana basketball, and was in the movie ''Hoosiers" with Gene Hackman

I retired from Butler University after 25 years. So, I've had many opportunities to visit Hinkle Fieldhouse. I saw many changes to the building over the years. Butler is very good about maintaining the building, and they do their best to keep it looking like it did originally. So many special events have taken place there! The building means something... Hinkle field house made us feel like we were on the set of the movie Hoosiers! Butler has a real gem in their basketball venue! Great place to take the family for some Hoosier hysteria :)
