Place is not what it originaaly set out to be. New developers are trying to revive the great building and location, but this is an ongoing process. Progress is being made for this to become a real attraction and place for shopping and eating.

Just seeing the amazing construction of this place was worth the stop. The inside has some quality local foods and handmade items. Plus a micro brew store within. There is also an upstairs entertainment venue, with live music. This is worth the beautiful country drive to get here.

On Wednesday, the second day of our road trip to northern Indiana, we were killing time till we had to go to the next adventure. This Southgate Crossing is way out in the country, but a beautiful place to see. This business opened in 2006 and shutdown and reopened in 2007. It has had many vendors in there since then and has been sold to new owners and they have remodeled. New vendors are in there every day. They have live music and weddings in there also. Next year when we go back it should be up and running at full capacity. It is a beautiful big building and the vendors are so knowledge and nice.

We decided to check this out. Now we wish we have visited it back when it was a farmers market. So disappointed inside, a lot of wasted space.

We visited at the beginning of November and the place was a magical place, with many things to offer. Mary was a source of knowledge and a pleasure to meet. Certainly worth a look for some unusual and quirky gifts for the Holidays.
We found interesting the hand crafted furniture, the craft beer supply company and the coffee shop was well received!

We were driving by this Big Red Barn and had to stop. It was the end of the day and they were closing in 30 min. but the staff told us to take our time.
Absolutely beautiful if somewhat overwhelmingly big building
We enjoyed poking in every corner, picking up some wonderful jams and honey, looking at all the interesting items.
All the staff and vendors that we met were wonderful
Would have loved to see a wedding here, perfect place for a reception.
I could totally see having business meetings here on the upper floors. Someone certainly has a vision and we wish them well.
We will stop there again the next time we are in the area to see what is new and how they are doing.

We stopped in on a late Sunday afternoon and browsed the shops and had sandwiches, soup and chips at the cafe. Everything was excellent. While we waited for food, I took the toddler upstairs to play in the playroom. He loved it.

This was built to be a farmers market. If they would have followed the South Bend farmers market example they would have been very successful. Stunning building.

We were traveling to Nappanee IN to visit a RV manufacturer and came across Southgate Crossing ( we called it the Farmers Market) on the way to Elkhart and our hotel. You can see this place from miles away - it's huge and gorgeous.
We drove up just before closing and decided to check the door. We were pleased to find it open and in we went! This place is even more beautiful on the inside! The layout and timbers make this look like Paul Bunyan's summer home. (Youngsters GOOGLE Paul Bunyan to figure that reference out) After looking around for a minute, we met Mary who we believe to be the Manager. As noted, it was close to closing time and most of the Staff was gone for the evening.
Mark took us around the facility and the pride that she took in this facility was easy to see. She told us the history, took us into the wedding venue and associated kitchen, showed us the various vendor areas and allowed us to go into the upper areas for the view. She spoke of each area and the future plans with great enthusiasm - you would have thought it was her own home. Her pride made us love the place even more.
They were in the process of setting up a corn maze in back of the building. There are many plans for this beautiful place and we hope they all come true. Exploring Southgate is an adventure in itself.
If you're in the Nappanee - Elkhart area, please give Southgate a visit. It's truly a masterpiece of workmanship and will intrigue anyone.
And please stop and say HEY to Mary. She'll be the lady with a large smile, great ambition and vision, and taking great pride in her job and property. She is an absolute gem!
Cheers,

This is a must see if your r going to Elkhart Indiana, This is such a beautiful place with all the flowers out. They were just getting start to build up their business inside, now I bet they have a lot more. The vendors had a lot of unusual things you probably couldn't find any where else. It is out in the country, but there are signs to get you there. A must see attraction.
