Museum just opened for 2017 season. Weve been here before and enjoyed first trip so much we had to return. Learned a lot first time and learned more this time. Lee Wallace is a decorated Civil War General. He served on the commission responsible for trials of Lincoln's assissans. His study is pretty much as he left it. Tour staff... More

I'm a Civil War buff and the Lew Wallace Museum/Study was a must see. I was definitely not disappointed. The pre-tour film depicting the General's amazing accomplishments is very well done and quite informative. The study, designed by Wallace based on his world travels, is a treasure trove of his incredible accomplishments. And the young lady who provided the tour... More

This past weekend my husband and I went on a day trip to Crawfordsville Indiana. While there we went to General Lew Wallace Study and Museum. We were met at the Carriage House by two very nice volunteers. We paid our fee of $5 and watch a brief film on the life History of General Wallace. It was a very... More

We love taking our friends to the Lew Wallace study. The grounds are beautiful with small pocket Gardens that are well-maintained, marked and historic. The building itself is unique and has a great story behind it's structure. Inside is an unbelievable amount of history in regards to author, politician, Solider General Lew Wallace. The interior has been undergoing renovations to... More

We took a little fall trip to get away from it all. We stayed at a B&B in Yountsville and toured Crawfordsville. We were not aware of the Ben Hur-Crawfordsville connection and Lew Wallace! The introduction movie was excellent, the staff and guide were superb and the grounds beautiful. The trees were changing color, adding to the beauty. What a... More

The General Lew Harris study it is such an interesting place. It is not a large place by any means, but there is so much packed in to this building. The general had many different careers throughout his life. He was a lawyer, a writer and minister to Turkey just to name a few. As another reviewer said this is... More

This is a very interesting place to visit - just an hour from Indianapolis. Author (Ben Hur), musician, artist, politician, military man - what an astonishing life. He attended the dedication of The Monument in Indy along with other celebrities, and his bust was moved from The English Opera House and Hotel to D.C. The statue in the yard is... More

Although we knew of General Lew Wallace's role in the Civil War and the writing of Ben Hur, we soon learned he was a very diverse, unique and interesting fellow. The tour starts in the carriage house/ticket office where you can view a video about General Wallace and his family. A guided tour of his study provides a glimpse of... More
