This was really interesting - the ship played an important role as the flagship of the Greek Navy in both the first and second world wars amongst many others. From central Athens, it is easier to go by tram than metro. Take tram 6 from Syntagma Square to Eden and then tram 7 from Eden to Trocadero. Note that they don’t allow you to take backpacks on board.

As an ex sailor I have to say this is the best maintained museum warship I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Immaculately kept and very well laid out. Absolute credit to the Greek Navy for keeping this heritage alive for future generations to see.

Whoever considers himself or herself as history lover must visit Battleship Georgios Averof. Hellenic Navy has done an excellent job in presenting and preserving history and traditions. A visit to B/S G. Averof is a trip to the glorious past. I will definitely visit it again and invite with me friends and family members who are seeking to know more about the relationship of Greeks and Sea!

Brilliant, immaculately maintained example of a gun cruiser. Credit to the Greek Navy for keeping this in such an amazing condition. 100% worth the entrance fee.

The shipis maintained well and it has explanations of its history with many displaed items like weapons, furniture and pictures of the ship's history and the history of other vessels in the greek navy. It is also located in a nice area, you can have a nice walk in the port.

The children were very enthusiastic about the ship and all the details about the sailors life in it! Not very convenient for children under four due to the fact that there are only ropes at the edges of the ship. Very clean facilities.

The well maintained Averof Battleship represents the turbulent history of Hellas during the Balkan wars of 1910s, goes through the first Word War and ends at the second Word War. Almost 50 years of glorious naval history. It fought victoriously under the command of legendary Admiral Kountouriotis and other Commanders at Aegean Sea, the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean.
If at the Athens Riviera it deserves to take an hour and visit this living peace of history.
