On our way to Landmannalaugar, we stopped at this unique and peaceful place.
Hjalparfoss is the perfect fall to sit, listen to the sound of water and take time to appreciate nature.
Compare the other falls, there are not many tourists who know this place, so you can take this unic picture without having to wait for a chance to get a perfect photo with no one around.

When visiting in winter the amount of water surging over the double waterfall is amazing, not many bugs at this time of year, rock formations of bent basalt columns going in all directions is a feature on the site, also worth visiting the commonwealth farm up the road. A reconstruction of a viking longhouse overlooked by waterfall coming off the mountain

Hjálparfoss is a hidden gem off the golden circle. Follow the other posts on how to get there and it's about a mile of gravel road to lead to the waterfall. Easily doable with a 2-wheel drive mousemobile!
There were only 2 other families here at abou 3pm. We stopped walked around the lake and waterfall - about 30 minutes. Nice stretch from being in the car all day. Would do again as it was different than the other waterfalls.

Having seen many waterfalls in Iceland we were not planing on visiting another one. however after seeing the waterfall in the short 10 minute film at the visitor centre in Pjorsárdalur we decided it was too beautiful to miss.
I am so glad we changed our minds! It is a beautifully waterfall that is completely different to others you may have seen.
You can also picnic here.

This was probably our most favorite waterfall that we saw in Iceland.
Its nicely off the beaten track, so not too crowded, but still very easy to get to and well signposted.
There are three great seating areas/viewing platforms around the falls.
If you have your own car this is a must visit sight!

Ended up finding this because we got completely lost, and we are so glad we did. There was no one else there and we had this stunning spot all to ourselves. The rock formations are incredible and the waterfall is stunning. Probably about 10 meters tall. So glad we found this, the road to get there was incredible to.

This was the first stop on the day we called Waterfall day on our vacation. We had hired a private guide in a 4x4 and were awed to turn the corner off of a gravel road surrounded by - well nothing - and see these falls. We visited in June and the edge of the lake or basin at the bottom was alive with wildflowers. My son had a fabulous time climbing the lose gravel hill adjacent to the falls to get the full view at the top: river leading over the falls and the entire valley before him. Many rocks to climb on. remote but wonderful. In the 40 minutes we spent here, only one other private tour group came.

This waterfall requires some driving to visit but it is well worth it, just off route 32. Its carpark can be reached via a one lane gravel road with some undulations but can be driven by a car that is not a 4x4. GPS coordinates to the falls are N64° 06.877 W19° 51.233. When we visited, the surrounding hills were all covered in greenery and it looked beautiful. At the location there are no services of any kind not even restrooms just the gravel car park. I seem to recall that the waterfall was signposted from the main road and anyone that has difficulty walking down the slope leading to it should be able to see it clearly from the car park itself!

Every waterfall in Iceland has its own uniqness. This one is divided into 2 waterfall but I found the rock formations around as even more impressive.

This double waterfall is a little out there, but worth a visit. When we went, there was barely a soul. There are no WC in the area, so be sure you use the restroom somewhere.

Its about a mile after you come off the main road (though the main road isn't that great either).
Totally fine if you are careful though - and well worth the drive!

Yes, I did it with a small 2WD car in June. Just drive slowly as always on unpaved roads.
