We have traveled extensively and have seen plenty of churches, but this is more about what is around the church than the church itself. When we were there we could not get inside the church, but we could look through the windows. What was interesting were the mounds/graves outside of the church and how it really tells the history of the area. You won't need more than 30 minutes there, but we are very happy we stopped by to see the church's architecture and history.

Very beautiful turf roof church in South Iceland. We drove up, parked, read the signs and leaned a bit of history, then left. Maybe stayed for 20 minutes? Beautiful and quick stop.

Turf church and an immaculate graveyard. Lovely little village. If you're going to the glacier lagoon, you need to stop here. There are clean WC too. Informative signs are nearby.

A lovely little church. Unfortunately it wasn't open when we visited but what you saw from the outside was what mattered. The turf roof is well maintained and a great photo opportunity.

My husband and I stopped by this church while heading east toward Diamond Beach. This beautiful turf-roofed church was truly lovely to see in person. It looks like a church out of a fairytale.

Just off Route 1 in the village of Hof is this turf covered church from 19C. Tiny place surrounded by trees as was typical. Information panel gives some history. Worth a quick stop

You would never expect that this tiny Village Hof has such an interesting building:
One of the last remaining churches in Iceland with a turf roof. The church is closed, but there is a window where you can see inside.
An interesting place!

This church is unique and I had no idea it was a house of worship. The building is traditionally Icelandic, and the thatched roof does not distract from the surrounding landscape.

The church itself is a cute little stop for a picture, but there isn't much else around. I wouldn't go out of your way to stop here, but if it's on your path, it makes for a fun picture. We spent about 10 minutes here stretching our legs and taking some fun pictures. Enjoy!

Only down point of this place is that you can't go inside the church, otherwise it's totally worse coming to have a look!
