This indoor attraction offers 30,000 square feet of LEGO fun including two rides, a 4D movie theater, a build and test zone where kids can build their own LEGO creations, Miniland - the Chicago skyline built from 1 million LEGO bricks, a soft play area, LEGO Pirate Adventure Island, Model Builder Workshop, LEGO Shop and Cafe.

We planned this trip as a surprise Christmas present for our 5 year old who loves Legos and has been asking to go to Legoland for months. We were all disappointed by the lack of attractions and entertainment that came with the $25 per person price point. While the builds of Chicago upon entry are impressive, I wouldn't expect to pay money to see them. After that area you come to a VR ride that costs $6 per person and no one under 6 can ride it. Next up is a 5 minute shooter ride that is cute but the guns don't work and the videos freeze up. Upstairs there is a 4D movie that lasts 15 minutes, again it's cute but the timing is off between the video and the 4D stuff so it wasn't great. The play area looks really cool but is not much to climb in or on. There are 3 build areas that are really tiny, not enough room for more than 5 kids really. The toddler area is a joke. One slide and one play table with about 100 duplo blocks. The Magician Ride was broken but didn't look like much fun anyway. Over all it was a waste of a 6 hour round trip and $115.00. We should have gone to the Museum of Science and Industry, it would have been cheaper and way more attractions, same amount of travel. Complete disappointment.

It was barely anything for the kids to do. The tickets we purchased were too expensive for the services that were provided and one of the activities that was suppose to come with our tickets were located in a different building. Another activity was out of commission. They even made me and my husband pay to get in. What a waste!

Disgusting. Absolutley disgusting, dirty and smelly, I can not believe this place charges you to enter. My two toddlers watched a lady undress herself on the lower level, shirt and all while she threw up all over the floor. She was clearly on something. Nobody was helping her. Not one staff member. We left. I’ll be calling their management or HQ shortly.

We took our grandson and it was very small, rides where closed, picture kiosk was not working, a few other features where closed also. Very disappointed as we drove and hour to get there and only spent an hour looking around. Paid 24.00 per person for not enough to do there. Had to go somewhere else.

I get the reason for this, but my boyfriend and I looked at the website before and after we went and no where on the website or on the building itself does it state this discriminating rule. We grew up with Lego, and really just wanted to check out the cool stuff that can be built. We purchased a Go Chicago card online and Legoland was included on the card, otherwise the place is overpriced. We got into the prepaid line since we did prepay, and then had to wait because some woman was buying tickets for her family of 4. Why have a prepaid line if you're going to let people buy tickets in either line? It was after we waited for her to get done that we presented our tickets and were turned away because we didn't have a kid. Again, I get the reasoning, but when people take their kids to a public place it is their responsibility to watch them. Those of us who choose not to have kids should not be discriminated against for wanting to enjoy a day of being a kid at heart.

Our family of 4 (kids ages 11 and 7) spent $80 to see maybe 5 rooms of Legos. It isn’t worth the money for what you get. This place is way overpriced.
First, we stood in line outside for about a half an hour. Once inside, we were directed to the Chicago room where you can see a layout of downtown Chicago. It was okay, but nothing to rave over. There were so many people that they held us in that room until the next room was clear. The next room is the Jungle room. You can see some monkeys, lizards, a hippo, a croc, and some people made out of Legos. Next, you go down a neon hall that leads to another large spider, then into a room with Batman, Darth Vader, R2D2, Indiana Jones, and a troll. After that, you can go on the Lego ride, which is very boring and slowly winds through a tunnel with more Lego stuff. You can go into the “Factory” to see how Legos are made. Now, don’t let this fool you. The real factory is not in this place of course. It’s a pathetic fake show that is geared towards young children. Each person does get a free Lego brick out of it though; however, I view it as 4 bricks for $80: the price of admission.

WHAT A RIP-OFF!!!! First off, they charge $20 a person (although they will flat out tell you it is cheaper if you buy it online with your smartphone. what a pain in the butt) But it was still $16 a person, including adults. There are two rides. One of which is a slow cart style ride where you shoot at three screens you come across. Even the employee told us you could walk through the ride faster. The second is a spinning airplane style ride where if the kids pedal fast enough they can go a whopping ten feet in the air. They have a 4D experience for 2 12 minute movies. One is at least seven years old and completely nonsensical because the characters don't speak. The 4D is not used at all and if it is it is just confusing. Other than that, there is a play area you would find at a McDonalds and a small work area where they can build and race cars. It is absurd. Maybe if adults didn't have to pay, a kid would be worth $16, but paying for my son and I was ridiculous. The ladies just went to Woodfield and waited an hour for us to be completely finished with it. Awful. And the LEGO store attached to it doesn't even have a very big selection. We went to Toys R Us after that and they had three times the selection of LEGOs. So don't even bother going to the store or else you might have the kids try and suck you in. Just avoid the store altogether.

Our boys love Legos so we were all looking forward to going to the Chicago Lego Discovery Center. What a disappointment. We saw the poor reviews online, but hoped for the best. Unfortunately most people were right. It is far too expensive for what is included. A very short 4-D movie, a slow ride on a dragon, and a corny Lego factory tour was about all two of our kids enjoyed even a little bit. Our 11 year old was majorly unimpressed. The boys thought the Lego store was tiny and saved their money for the Legoland back home at MOA. There was a building area and ramps to race cars, but with five of us looking we couldn't find a even one set of wheels to make a car. A reasonable price for what the Discovery Center has to offer would be $5-$6 at the most. I

My family of four visitied LegoLand in Chicago this past weekend. My husband and I, with our 6 and 8 year old kids, paid around $70.00 for admission for the day. There is a discount if you buy your ticket online, so some preperation could go a long way on admission fees.
This place is a wonderland for kids. The staff is wonderful!! I did not come into contact with one staff person who was not more than helpful and eager to help. The tours and such are alot of fun but the play area is the real draw for the kids. My kiddo's spent hours in the jungle gym with the large foamy lego blocks. Those were a big hit. My husband and I even got into it. We sat at a table with boat loads of lego's and built buildings and pools. It was alot of fun and I highly recommend it.
Legoland is in a nice shopping center with quite a few food choices. There is a cafe in LegoLand but we chose to get out of the kid chaos for a hour and walk 200ft to a place called Meatheads. Very good burgers... Legoland allows you come and go all day long as long as you show your admission ticket when you return.
Finally, the gift shop. Of course, the kids would not leave LegoLand without some legos to take home. Prices are about the same as anywhere else but the variety is great. My only disappointment in the gift shop was that they did not have things like the larger plates for sale. Would have been nice to have some of those types of things available for individual purchase instead of having to buy them in a normal kit.
All in all.... Legoland is well worth the trip and kids of all ages will love it with many happy returns.

We went with our 2 year old (2.3) and where told that she will have plenty to do.
It was very noisy and there where way too many people, all the attractions where ment for older kids who can follow instructions and the main thing we could do with her is sit by a table of lego (and waited a while to find an empty space) and try to interest her, the pieces of lego where too small and did not interest her much.
They describe the place as a big theme park but in reality it's a shop with some attractions above it, atleast that's how I felt.
I guess it is better when there are not so many people and better for older kids then mine.

Not sure if they have family passes. We used a "KIDS GO FREE" coupon that they put in the Lego catalog. Go to Lego website and order a catalog. Kids are free with a paying adult.

I think the pass you purchased is for one person, so you will need one for your 6year old, also. I would contact them to get a the specifics on membership.

How does the Legoland Discovery Center compare/contrast to the Legoland in Orlando, FL?

The main difference is that the one in Florida is an open park and much larger. This one in the Chicago area is in a mall and indoors; probably due to the winter time (otherwise they would not be able to open at that time). It is also much smaller than the one in Florida.

What would be the best way to get to Legoland from downtown Chicago?...traveling with younger children.

Best for me would be to drive. You could take a Metra train from downtown. Hire a cab to take you from the train station to Legoland and hire another cab to take you back to the station. I think it would better to rent a car.

Tickets are sold on line. So you could probably call and ask if it's busy. We went on a Thursday and it was perfect.

You could see everything in a couple hours, but if you choose to do all the experiences and rides, it takes at least half a day.
