- GrandTour3601503 contributionsGros Piton HikeSt Lucia is paradise! My husband and I climbed the Gros Piton (we are 51 and in moderate shape). Start early (7:00 am) and bring a lot of water (2 litres each). Our guide, Abi, was the best!!! It is an uphill, gruelling hike but it is doable. The couple behind us were 70! It took us four hours and we have never sweat so much...the last 1/2 hour the heat was killing us (so don't start any later than 7:30). It was such a great experience though and reaching the top was a highlight for us! The guides are amazing. Do it and for the remainder of your holiday you will gaze at the Gros Piton and marvel that you climbed to the top.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 March 2024
- Ian H24 contributionsNice medium challenging hike. The reviews universally say that Gros Piton is streneous. We are a reasonably fit couple aged 64 & 72. It is a bit of a scramble; but our benchmark of 1,000 ft per hour was pretty accurate. 2 1/4 hours to go from 600 ft to 2,620 ft, and the same time to descend. The ascent started at 09:15 a.m. and happened in shade, which was great. The descent was more sunny, hence more hot. The view along the way and from the top were very nice.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 March 2024
- JJamNashville, Tennessee78 contributionsChallenging yet rewarding hike with amazing viewsWe set out at 7am with the goal to only hike halfway. We are 50 & 55 and while physically active and exercise regularly we are not accustomed to hiking rocks and boulders. Everyone also said the best views are at the halfway point. Shane was our guide and was excellent and great to have along the trek to the halfway mark. It is difficult so be sure to wear proper hiking boots, start early due to the heat and bring plenty of water. We will be back next year and plan to hike the entire route.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 March 2024
- SuedrsBecker, Minnesota138 contributionsSee the Pitons by Water!Took a ship excursion on a catamaran from the port in Castries, St. Lucia to view the Pitons. Well maintained boat with helpful, friendly and informative crew. Cruised down the coast while the guide crew member explained about building the villages and roads, talked about the infrastructure of the island and,of course, highlighted mega expensive resorts. Sighted some dolphins playing alongside the boat. Captain took us close enough to see the detail of the sharp drop of the twin peaks to the ocean. Had a short swim stop. Was a great way to see the Pitons without having to spend a long time in a vehicle.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 April 2024
- BigMerkGlasgow, United Kingdom2,707 contributionsGreat view from the waterI took part in a Princess Cruise on the Queen of the Carnival which is a catamaran. The scenery throughout was stunning and the mini-cruise was very good. The highlight was The Pitons which were outstanding. We only viewed from the water but it was well worth it - and avoided a long dusty drive in searing heat!!Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 18 May 2024
- psudinoWeehawken, New Jersey4,429 contributionsSymbol of the island. These mountains are the symbol of the island. They are a unique geological structure due to their size and somewhat odd location being right on the water. Many islands that have mountains like this are centrally located, but not these. The larger one has a hiking trail, but if you are not physically fit, then seek advise before trying to climb it. If you visit St. Lucia and travel to the south you will encounter these unique peaks.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 May 2024
- helgre2016Chelmsford, United Kingdom159 contributionsThe view is worth the climbWe made our way early to the Pitons meeting point and began our climb at 7.20 am with our guide Larry. Larry was knowledgeable about the area and walked at a good pace to get us up and down in 4 hours. The climb itself was not too bad it was more coping with the heat whilst climbing.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 May 2024

I am in great shape at 50 this was awesome and a tough hike. Plan for the hike down it takes a lot more strength than going up. I can't get hurt I have to be 100% at work and the foot placement on the way down was highly taxing!! Take hand sanitizer there is a fruit stand at the top, bring more water than you think you need and love every second! Strangely when you get to the top don't be defeated by the miniature puppy that climbs it every day!!

We were on the Norwegian Escape over Christmas and New Year. We made a stop in St. Lucia and 6 other islands, on this 9 day cruise. It was our 43rd cruise and 1st time to visit St. Lucia. The island was really mountainous with narrow, winding roads. It was a beautiful site and our long bus ride took us around much of the south end of the island.
Our excursion, that we booked through the ship, was called "Touch the Pitons." I had no idea what that meant, except that we would be able to see these iconic peaks. We drove for at least an hour on a medium size bus as the bigger buses would not fit the roads. We stopped a few times at scenic over looks to take pictures.
We arrived at the parking area and departed the bus. A local guide pointed way up the mountain to a platform and said that was where we were going. I couldn't imagine that it could be that tough and convinced my wife to go. I am 76 years old and she was about to turn 72. We are in pretty good shape and this excursion proved it.
The trail was cut by locals. It was dirt in most places with roots acting as trip hazards. The trail was barely wide enough for us to go single fine. So, it was a bit difficult when we met folks coming down. My wife asked one of them for their walking stick and they obliged. It took almost an hour to make it to the platform. Part way up we enter a section that was called "Stairway To Heaven."
Well, we made it and you can see by the pictures I posted that it was worth it. Going down only took us 15 minutes.

WOW! First of all, this review is just for hiking Petit Piton. I hiked it with Wayne of Wayne's Tours & Hiking Club. He was a fantastic guide, and though the locals had put some fear in me as to whether I'd be able to climb the mountain (it's apparently trickier than Gros Piton), Wayne guided me up with patience and care. This hike doesn't technically require a guide, but bring one!! Specifically, bring Wayne.
The hike itself was about 5 hours total (2 up + down, plus an hour up top), and it was grueling at times! Wear good shoes, bring some water, and take your time. But the views up top are unbeatable (apparently better than Gros Piton, because you get a 360 view). Just be ready to have your legs and arms feel like jelly for a few days after.
After, Wayne brought me to the warm pools/waterfall at the base (he paid all of my entrance fees), which was a wonderful reward for the hard work. I can't recommend Wayne enough.
An incredible experience I won't soon forget. Thank you Wayne!! (WhatsApp: +17587145454)

A ‘Must Do’. The twin peaks are breath-taking, whatever the weather. Unless you are a seasoned hiker, or are staying in one of the hotels in the vicinity, it is probably best to visit on one of the catamaran excursions (these get pretty close and many make a snorkelling stop here). For us, this was one of the few sites on St Lucia that lived up to the hype.

Great walk up the the Gros Piton, however please note that this a scramble and not a hike. I am 59 and a veteran of many Scottish and Lake District (UK) Hill climbs and it was very tough. If you go on an organised 'Hike' you will have to go at their pace and sticks although advertised as' provided' are actually an additional charge. If you like to take your time, its cheaper to go by taxi and go up on your own. There are some good views to be had. Dont worry too much about getting burnt as its mostly in the shade which or course means lots of mossquitos.

The world is an amazing place with so much beauty. This piece of Heaven is so stunning, you don’t want to take your eyes off of it. The Pitons are a MUST! 💕 We also took a catamaran trip from our Sandals Resort to the base of the Pitons for snorkeling! A-MAZING! Absolutely one of the most awesome things I’ve ever done, and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone! 🐠 🌊 🐟

We experienced “Touch the Pitons” with Caleb Tarantula and it was spectacular! Highly recommend this excursion. Caleb narrated on our bus journey to the Pitons. Entertaining and informative with several stops along the way. After hiking the Tet Paul Nature Trail and viewing the Pitons we stopped to splash under the Toraille waterfall then had an enjoyable meal at the Old Sugar Mill Restaurant. A wonderful way to spend the day on St Lucia.

I am not one to normally write reviews of geological features, but I could not allow the 1 star reviews of these majestic peaks go undefended.
Others have complained that the mountain was a very difficult hike. Or that it rained while they were hiking which made the rocks slippery.
Yes, it is a cone shaped mountain. One look at it should let you know it is a steep climb. Although you may be on vacation, the laws of physics still apply to the friction coefficient of wet rocks.
Also I would like to defend the guides. People have complained that their guide didn’t give a nature lesson while climbing this beast. They also, predictably, complained about the $50 cost.
The role of the guide is not to teach you about local plants. The guide is there to safely get you up and back down this cone of death.
Also, you try hiking this thing 4 times a day dragging out-of-shape middle aged Karens up this slope. $50 is not nearly enough.
So big dangerous hill. If you get out of breath walking to the mall, this isn’t for you.

Pitons are incredible and really make this part of the Island the place to be. We hiked near them, did a sunset cruise by them, and every day we work up at Ladera we stared at them. The view never got old.

If you are mildly fit, climbing the Gross piton is for you. It took us 2 1/2 hours each way. You must hire a guide ($55 a person), but ours was knowledgeable and helpful. The climb is a mix of rocky steps and scrambling over boulders. The trails are moderately busy. Nearly at the top there was a fellow selling beer, energy drinks, and water and some foreign substance (he that can’t be named). The view from the top was so so but pretty. Start early, bring a lunch and water.
Like all of st Lucia, you will be over charged for the experience. But they are trying to build the economy with tourism, and still in the early throes.

Hi all ! We're aboard the Marella Explorer and will be docking in Castries St Lucia tomorrow. I'd like to see the view from the Pitons without Hiking to the top (we have a friend who can't walk far), a waterfall and a couple hours visit to Le Toc beach. Do you think it reasonable to do all that in 7 hours ? We'll probably ask a taxi driver to run us around tomorrow but wondered if do-able !! Obviously not to the top of the Pitons but not sure how far up you can get by road ? (If at all). If not we'll just admire from afar ! Thanks all in advance.

I only visited as a tourist but I didn't see any road access on our hike although there could be one around the other side

Hi. He just happened to be who was next in line when we got there. However, I was told that you can request certain guides when you get there.
