It is amazing how nature plays such a huge part in creating such beauty, beauty that captivates the soul. This place looks like a mountain that is painted with coal... Some rocks are so perfectly carved you'd swear a machine was used, but it was all due to mother nature, herself.

The Moon Landscape in Namibia, for me, was an amazing and awe-inspiring sight to behold. As you arrive at the viewpoints, you feel like you have been transported to the moon, and the desolate landscape with eroded hills dipping into a valley makes for ample unique photo opportunities. On Google Maps, there are 3 main markers for Moon Landscape: Viewpoint 4, Viewpoint 6, and the Moon Landscape Marker itself. The Moon Landscape Marker is just a general point for the area, and you can't really see anything from the road if you drive to it. Both Viewpoint 4 and 6 have the scenic views you are looking for. For Viewpoint 4, you don't need a permit to visit. For Viewpoint 6, you do need a permit, but in my opinion, Viewpoint 4 gives you everything you would want already. If you want to visit Viewpoint 6, a permit can be bought in Swakopmund. When I went, a permit per person was N$ 100, and there was an additional per-vehicle fee as well. Also note that when I visited, the roads were in good condition and suitable for most vehicle types. After exploring the Moon Landscape, I recommend heading to Goanikontes (which I've reviewed separately) for something to eat and drink. You won't regret it! Overall, the Moon Landscape is a must-see attraction, especially if you are visiting Swakopmund. This wasn't my first time, and definitely won't be my last.

Did a tour and was not that impressed. Lots of mountains and sand. Really not that much to see. A really rough ride to get there.

This is a must-do day trip from Swakopmund. Photos don't do it justice and it is quite a spectacular sight. Be sure to visit Goanikontes Oasis Rest Camp nearby for lunch in their amazing kid-friendly restaurant.

Once a big mountain range, erosion has reduced it to rolling, low-lying hills.
For the past two million years, the Swakop River and its many tributaries flowed through this valley, giving it life and shaping the natural phenomenon you see today. According to geologists, the group of hills was pushed up through the earth’s surface about 500 million years ago.
The area is a photographer’s heaven. On misty mornings, when the coastal fog penetrates between the hills, the valley can be described as ghostlike. But once the sun has risen high in the sky and the fog has dispersed, the lunar landscape can be seen in all its colours and contours. Be sure to spend some time at the lookout point.

It was a perfect day to visit the replica of the moon in the Namib desert, the clear sky and cool morning wind contributed to a stunning view.

A lovely days outing to see the moon landscape - all the different colours are just amazing. We got to see the Welwitschia plants as well - all very fascinating. Well worth a drive.
