We visit this park as part of our annual visit to the three state parks in the area. We will do at least a couple of the hiking trails, Forest Ridge and River Bluff. The River Bluff one (once you drive in make a first right and it is past the playground) is short but has a steep hike up... More

The portion of the park along the river offers a spectacular view of the river. The portion on the opposite side of Rt 2 provides a fun place for a hike & picnic.

It is a little climb up several stairs to the top of Castle Rock however the view at the peak is breathtaking. Especially in the fall.

We spent a beautiful sunny day exploring some of the trails available as well as the climb up stairs to a wonderful view of the rock river and surrounding area. Trails are somewhat marked, can be a bit confusing. Saw people Fishing and relaxing along the river, as well as a few boats. Would recommend to anyone who loves the... More

Castle Rock State Park has trails and hiking areas but the best place at Castle Rock is the view from the rock itself. Climb the flights of stairs to the top of the sandstone outcropping overlooking the Rock River. Especially beautiful in the autumn, one can look north and south along the winding Rock River. Across from the overlook is... More

The park is beautiful with great trails to walk through. Then when you are done hiking btake a drive down the road a little towards Dixon and to your right is a place to climb some stairs. When you get to the top it is some of the most beautiful views you have ever seen. It is highly recommended to... More

Easily found on route 2, this is a lovely place to view wildlife and have a picnic. There's a stair step climb to a delightful over the river view---we watched canoeists and kayaks paddle down the Rock River. You can also fish from one of the pull ins. Loved the BIG JOHN port-a-potty with the old outhouse doors.

First visit. Went on the 1.25 mile "nature hike" and saw virtually no one else. And this was on the 4th of July weekend. No guide brochures to the trail, unfortunately, but I suspect this was due to budgetary reasons. Saw a young eagle later, soaring above the Rock River. We will go back and check out more trails.

This is a nice place to visit especially in the fall to view the nice views of the river with all the leaves changing color. There are a few steps to climb up to the top of castle rock itself so it can be difficult for some people. Also nice place to stop and have a picnic. I haven't personal... More
