Greene Valley Forest Preserve in Naperville is an awesome place to appreciate and enjoy nature. We have biked and hiked the beautiful trails quite often. Trails are paved with fine crushed stone but for a small but lovely stretch leading to 83rd street which is asphalt paved. The well maintained trails are wide enough so that two way traffic is not an issue. The trails on the west side of Greene Road are woodier and shadier than the trails on the east side. Informative placards are installed along the trails about local history and biodiversity. The park website mentioned a 1‐mile self‐guided Tree Trek footpath at Thunderbird Road parking lot, but I could not see any trees labeled. In addition to the trails, there are picnic shelters and a dog park in the preserve. The 190‐foot‐tall scenic overlook offers a bird’s‐eye view of DuPage County and the Chicago skyline. I have seen quite a few people flying kites here. A smooth gravel road leads from the base of the hill to the parking lot at the top. The scenic overlook is normally open to the public on Saturday and Sunday May through October from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
One negative about the trail is the one major road crossing at busy 75th street even though there is a traffic light. All in all, Greene Valley has a very enjoyable trail system providing great enjoyment of the outdoors.
