Whalon Lake in Naperville is an awesome recreational place repurposed from an old quarry. The large lake is surrounded by about a mile long asphalt paved trail which is great for walking, running, biking with open and full view of the lake. But no shade is available. Locals say it is best in early morning for sunrise or in the afternoon for sunset views. The lake has a boat ramp, seasonal kayak rentals, and a fishing dock. Additional attractions right next to the lake are the Du Page River Trail and the Dog Park. Hidden Lakes Park (also called Trout Farm Park) is also next door after crossing a beautiful wooden foot bridge.
Whalon Lake is a hidden gem in Naperville, best enjoyed on a cool and cloudy day.

If goose poop everywhere is a deal breaker for you, Whalon Lake Preserve is probably not gonna be your jam. But besides that, this park is like a mini-vacation away from the world. With greenery, a little waterfront, walking and biking and even a dog park this site offers something for just about everyone to enjoy. We held our granddaughter's first birthday there in order to be outdoors and socially distanced. The use of the pavilion to eat together, but apart, was a great asset there. We will use this space again and again, even just to hang out and enjoy the outdoors.
