DuPage River Trail is beautiful trail. It has multiple sections in Naperville and Bolingbrook, and this review is for the Whalon Lake trail section which runs on both the north (4+ miles) and south (about 2+ miles) sides of East Branch DuPage River, covering a distance of about 7 miles. The north section runs from Whalon Lake to 95th Street in Naperville, and the south section runs from Whalon Lake to Indian Boundary Park in Bolingbrook. The trail is pretty flat, paved and very well maintained. The trail goes through beautiful wetlands, riparian forests, and prairie preserves. Along the way, the trail passes by the wonderful Knoch Knolls Park and Nature Center in Naperville. The loop around Whalon Lake is also very enjoyable. The parking lot at Whalon Lake has several amenities including a fishing boardwalk. I did not find a trailhead at the 95th Street end of the trail. Near Whalon Lake, the trail continues to the lovely Hidden Lakes park via a nice boardwalk. Hidden Lakes park is very popular for recreational fishing. The trail continue son to Indian Boundary Park. This section of the trail has a lot of shade.
DuPage River Trail is indeed a very enjoyable trail suitable for walking, running, biking. Birds and wildlife are aplenty all along the trail, too.

I frequently ride my bike on the 6 mile stretch of the DuPage River Trail between the trailhead on Concord Lane in Bolingbrook (parking lot off Royce Road, west of Route 53) to 95th Street in Naperville. It's a great ride with a variety of scenery - the DuPage River, Whalon Lake, woods, and prairies. It's paved and mostly flat, but there are some small hills and turns to give it a little interest. Certain parts are busy with walkers, runners, folks who are fishing, and other bikers. This section takes about 1 to 1.5 hours round trip, depending on your speed and stops.
The eastern part of the trail follows the river and backyards of lucky homeowners until you reach Trout Farm Park and the bait shop. You can follow the trail straight west to reach Indian Boundary Park, but I prefer to turn right (north) onto the pretty wooden bridge. After crossing the bridge, you approach Whalon Lake. It's fun to see people out on boats here. Turn right to ride around the lake, or turn left for a shorter ride.
The trail continues west and crosses Washington Street and passes through a sports complex. When you see an intersection, take a left. You will cross over a bridge and then see a tunnel that goes under 95th Street.
If you go straight at the intersection, the trail continues to Knock Knolls Park with a disc golf course, nature center, and playground. If you are here in late April or early May, seek out the wooded area filled with Virginia Bluebells.
