Amazing Group of 125 Stone Temples dedicated to Lord Shiva
It is the group of 125 temples situated on the banks of river Jata Ganga in Jageshwar, Almora District of Uttrakhand State in India. It is around 30km drive from Almora. Jageshwar is considered as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and it lies on the ancient route of Kailash Mansarovar. It is said that Jagat Guru Adi Shankarcharya came here and re-established the sanctity of this place. Two of the main temples are Shri Jyotirlinga Jageshwar Temple and Shri Maha Mrityunjaya Temple. Other Gods and Goddess names can be read from inscriptions written on rock slabs by the Archaeological Survey of India. These 125 temples are of different architectural styles and were built from the 7th to the 18th century. Once you enter the site, an amazing view of small and large temples fascinate you to explore them. The place was calm and serene. As per old tradition, a sign board shows the sequence one should follow while visiting the temples. So we visited the Shri Jyotirlinga Jageshwar Temple first and later Shri Maha Mrityunjaya Temple. Lotus Pond is full of blossomed Lotus flowers. A small river named Jata Ganga flows adjacent to the Temple making pleasant water sounds. We had multiple pictures all around. Photography inside temples is not allowed. One can do Pooja in two main temples with all Hindu rituals. The Temples here are not that crowded as we have in other parts of India. This is a must visit place if you are near Nainital. The other group of Temples are Dandeshwar Group of Temples situated near by on the route from Almora.

    Beautiful Ancient Temples
Beautiful ancient temples. Felt like in the lap of Gods and Goddesses. Surrounded by tall trees, this is a very serene place. Enjoyed my visit there. Also got a 'puja' done and the temple pandits were helpful.

Lovely temples but the floor can get very cold to walk around barefoot during December. I wanted to enjoy more but the cold feet forced to me to keep on returning to spot where the stone floor was warm due to sunlight.

The place has a surreal feel to it. Very peaceful atmosphere. Definitely a must visit place, but on a warm sunny day.

Shiva the Jageshwar.
Route is enchanting and filled with mysticism. Dark green tall Deodars with just shadows and a river stream flowing right through.

The temple complex of 125 temples makes one wonder what the Kakutiya dynasty had in mind and how on earth they could creat such temples right through 8th century AD to 13th Century. Wonder is under statement. Temple architecture at its best. The maha mrityunjay mandir adds so much of sacredness. And next to the river is the samshan ghat !

Just don’t miss the place. Most sacred for Hindus.

Absolutely amazing place. Mesmerizing architecture. I have never seen so many temples in one place. This is a hidden gem deep inside the forest. Lovely place. Very peaceful and tranquil too. I was able to sit quietly in one corner and meditate for a long time. Didn't even realize how fast the time went by. I will surely visit this place every time I visit India.

Very badly attended by pandits on mahashivratri. We were asked to hand over dakshina in their hands and not in daanpatra, they also refused us to light up diyas saying "madam bheed mat Karo, aage badho" that too with only 10 people behind us. Ancient, sacred property being totally ruined by greedy people of today

The place is out of this world, such is the quietness and serenity, that is the reason why many say GODS reside in hills. Everything about this place is so light that actually one forgets all the ills and evils and try to connect to GOD through the temple.
Probably, except for the blaring music put on by the taxi wallahs, there is no noise at all. It is so calm that it actually relaxes your mind and nerves
The place is surrounded by the Deodhar forest and such dense Deodhar forest are not probably seen any where
If you want to relax spiritually and in mind this is the place to meditate
Please do carry some heavy wollens from Nov to Feb it is cold and walking shoes are must , camera is must to capture the beauty and enjoy those moments for ever
2-3 days are sufficient to cover the entire group of temples
The ASI museum is superb and one feels proud of the rich heritage this country has
