A nice place for seeing/learning about the indian mounds, hiking, and scenery. Uncrowded, we really enjoyed seeing bald eagles, hawks ,vultures, and sand hill cranes.

This site has a good view of the Mississippi river and short walking trails. Access to the site is by a one lane gravel/dirt road.

This site is easy to miss; so please watch carefully for the sign. Get out of your car and walk to the kiosk which gives you helpful information about this site. More importantly, take the walk to the mound!

Stopped by and was not sure what to expect. But the information guide and signs were very informative. Be sure to gauge the map where you park and notice the path immediately to your left for the thunderbird mound.

We were in the area exploring places off the beaten path, and this was a very nice stop to enjoy some history of the area. Amazing to think that Indians were there so many years ago, as evidenced by the many mounds there. There are...More

I was there in July and there were no paved trails. There is a short walking trail from the parking area to the closest bluff and burial mound which you may be able to negotiate. It is not that far at all outside Galena and... More
