The owner has lovingly worked on this garden for over forty years. He fashioned this work of beauty out of a former garbage dump! It is a lovely hidden gem that is worth a visit or two! The owner is also a gifted artist. It...More

Perched atop a rocky limestone bluff overlooking historic Galena, Illinois, is the city's best-kept secret, an oasis called Linmar Gardens, a 3 1/2-acre wooded wonderland that had been mined for lead, quarried for stone and used as a garbage dump until it was purchased and...More

Wife and I stopped there yesterday. I is a "shade garden" and was well worth the price of admission. The owners have done an excellent job of incorporating a water feature into the garden. We got some great ideas for use in our backyard. It...More

We walked up the hill only to find it was closed for the season. Check to see if it's open before you go.

Visiting in the fall like we did one does not get the full effect of the gardens. But it is obvious the owners have put a lot of effort into laying out and planting the gardens.

Very nice tour of a private garden. If you are interested in gardens and plants/flowers, then it is wonderful. Note, there is a $10 fee per person.

This botanical garden is hidden away in the heart of Galena. Our tour guide was personable and interesting. The trees and plants were spectacular. There is a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes.

Second time I've gone on a tour of Linmar Gardens. Extra thrill, owner gave tour. If you are a gardener or not, wonderful tour. It is amazing what he's done with this acreage. Don't miss it!

I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. I called ahead to ensure that there would be room on the tour, as they are only offered at 11 and 2, to nail down the location, and find out where to park....More
