Nicely done; wonderful walk and great info placards about what you are seeing--whether it was plants/trees, or the flying birds that you may see. Great explanation of the seasonal solstice and use of the viewing area! Great place for FREE to take the kids and...More

If your near Galena --this is worth a visit. It's just 5 minutes south of Galena--and a simple drive up the mound. The only time it might be a problem is if it snowed.Otherwise--you don't need a 4 wheel. The folks to put this together should...More

Nice view. Steeeeeep driveway! The sign recommends four wheel drive but there were 2 wheel drive sedans in the lot. Not a lot of hiking trails.

We visited on a cool Friday afternoon. The gps directions & roadsign for ‘horseshoe mound’ led us well. The one lane gravel road was a bit steep & windy but our car didn’t have troubles. There was one other car when we arrived and 2...More

We hiked the entire place. Warm day in September. Taking pics in a narrow grassy area between the wild flowers and large rocks. Finished photographing, turned around, took A step or two and saw a huge snack move! I might have stepped on it, had...More

You can see for miles and if you walk a little farther you can see the Mississippi. The drive in was rough and there is a sign saying use four wheel drive but we made it up just fine.

Great lookout--you can see for miles. The trek up is a little rough, especially as you near the summit--gravel can be slippery, so use caution. We don't have 4 wheel drive but still made it. Interesting history.

We enjoyed seeing the views. The drive up is on a steep winding gravel road. Caution should be used. There are a few little stations with crank handles that tell about the flora and fauna of the area. Also a few viewing scopes to look...More

We were there 10/10. Not allot of color. Mainly yellows and green. Would expect weekend of 10/23 or this weekend to be in full color.
