A Beautiful Spot

This is a very simple, but beautiful memorial. It is a great place to stop and reflect as well as to rest if you are making one of those long Chicago treks.

Placing the monument right on the high traffic Riverwalk means lots of people will get to see it and think about what it represents. Well thought out monument excellently placed.

It was just so close to the Riverwalk. it was tiny place. All of the Vietnam Monuments/Sqares were huge and this tiny place fits the surrounding.

Right by the Riverwalk, this small scale memorial is a nice change for the grandiose ones in DC where I live. It is a serene spot just down from Wabash and a nice way to honor the Vietnam Veterans of Chicago.

This memorial reflective pond and fountain was respectful and understated. And yet I kept wondering why one of America's largest cities had such a small memorial for the people who gave up their lives fighting for our country. The memorial in Washington is much more powerful .

It's understated but sometimes that works for a monument of its kind. Great job Chicago on that front, not everything needs to be massive and loud.

We discovered this alcove just off the RiverWalk. It is a quiet area with fountains and pool along with a wall dedicated to the Chicago Vietnam Veterans who were killed. It is similar to The Wall in DC, except it focuses on Chicago and the names etched on the wall are grouped by the year. So it is easy to... More

So glad to see the city of Chicago respecting the service of its citizens who fought in Vietnam. Stop along the river walk and give thanks to all who defended our country

This is a very nice and well thought out memorial to remember the Vietnam war and those who fell. Very tastefully done and a little peaceful area in the busy downtown of Chicago

I came across this site early one evening when exploring the riverside walkway. You approach down a stately wide stairway from Wabash Avenue Bridge at Wacker Drive. The Memorial has a fine water feature and the surrounding cultivated area is kept in pristine condition. The central part records names of the 2900 Illinois fallen or MIA. The site is in... More
