Welcome to the University of Chicago! Founded in 1890 through a gift from John D. Rockefeller, the University of Chicago is an intellectual destination and one of the world's premier academic institutions for inquiry, education, and discovery. UChicago draws inspired students and scholars to our Hyde Park and international campuses, placing us at the nexus of ideas that challenge and change the world. Beyond scholarly endeavors, visitors can tour architecture from neo-Gothic to contemporary, meander through lush botanic gardens, experience a broad array of visual performing arts, bike along the historic Midway Plaisance, and discover many other cultural treasures both on campus and off. Hyde Park Community The main University campus is situated just seven miles south of downtown Chicago in the vibrant Hyde Park neighborhood-a tight-knit, diverse community bursting with coffee shops, restaurants, and bookstores. The newly revitalized 53rd Street corridor has become an epicenter for dining, shopping, and entertainment. Hyde Park is also the heart of Museum Campus South, a consortium of museums and cultural institutions on Chicago's Culture Coast including the DuSable Museum of African American History, Museum of Science and Industry, Frank Lloyd Wright's Frederick C. Robie House, the Renaissance Society, and the UChicago's own Smart Museum of Art, Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, and the Oriental Institute Museum. UChicago's Global Impact The University is shaped and inspired by the city of Chicago. Through growing partnerships with neighbors, UChicago is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and economic development of the South Side-and to the global reach of its vibrant city. In all we do, we are driven to dig deeper, push further, and ask bigger questions-and to contribute and expand our knowledge to enrich human life.

Beautiful campus

Strolled around this area on Friday, May 12th. Beautiful campus, especially Botany Pond. The Gothic style buildings are well worth traveling to see.

My son went to medical school here and this is a first rate school with programs that easily compete with the Ivy League. For a visitor it is a first rate example of an old style campus with lots of older buildings. It is also where they built the first atomic bomb so there is history here.

UC has a beautiful campus. It is largely architecturally homogeneous. Oxbridge imitation but classic. Nicely wooded. Regensteiner is a great library, there is Rockefeller Chapel, the Oriental Institute, Robie House, etc. Many nice places to eat which are reasonable since they cater to students.

If you like to walk a lot and enjoy viewing great architecture, this very large campus offers all that for sure. Loved standing at one end of the Midway Plaisance, which is about a mile long, and looking down across the park areas over to the campus. The Hyde Park neighborhoods are quite diverse and there is a great deal... More

Went to see Smart art museum, small gem with a wide assortment of art displayed in a few galleries. The museum has thousands of art pieces so the selections will change, but the diversity of style and era is a manageable visit for a family or those who are adverse to the larger art museum experience. Strolling the campus on... More

We visited this campus to see what life might be like as an American college student. It was beautiful and peaceful and we were surprised at how much of a community it was. The buildings were beautiful and we spent a few hours exploring the different quads, searching for sculptures along the way.

When we arrived on campus, I felt I was transported to 19th century England. If I was put in the middle of the campus without being told where I was it would be immediately obvious that I was at a distinguished university. Try to catch a concert at the church. The organ is incredible.

No one can dispute the reputation of excellence of this University. Architecturally beautiful it is a place all by itself located in Hyde Park a very eclectic community that has withstood the test of time. So academically serious many of the students quip: "Where fun goes to die!"
