About
The Second City is the world's premiere comedy theatre offering the best in Chicago-style sketch and improv comedy every night of the week and has launched the careers of Tina Fey, Bill Murray, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell and many, many others. First, let’s define a few terms so we’re all on the same page. Sketch comedy is scripted, well-rehearsed scenes that we never, ever call “skits.” (And most of us are mighty touchy about that one. Improv is the unscripted, spontaneous, collaborative art form Second City is famous for. Stand-Up is the classic one-comic-on-stage-with-a-mic-telling-jokes routine. Think Jerry Seinfeld against a brick wall. Typically, any stand-up performances at Second City happen in the UP Comedy Club. A classic Second City revue is made up of original sketches and songs sprinkled with a healthy dose of our world-famous improv. Second City productions are fully written and rehearsed, but no two shows are ever the same.

Really Fun Night out
Dec 2021
Funny, irreverent, some intelligent humor, but most is sophomoric humor (my favorite). Wife and I enjoyed it immensely.

Heartbreaking birthday
Nov 2021
Heartbroken-- I bought 4 tickets for a show and minutes later realized I bought the wrong ones---right show but wrong day (I know they don't have returns, but I called to see if I had ANY options-- could I go on stand by for a different show that night? Could I trade tix for a less expensive show? ANYTHING? DONATE the tickets to them? NOTHING-) I'm out $300 and am heartbroken as it was for my daughter's 16th birthday and I can't afford another show.

I realize they have to protect their box office, but SOME flexibility (stand by, perhaps or exchanges only if seats avail that night) seems like good business but also is simply kinder. I feel like I ruined her Sweet Sixteen and have just been devastated all day long.

My recommendation is to take your chances and buy ONLY at the show-- you may lose out on the show you want, but chances are you can see another for that night-- but it's not worth the potential $$ loss if anything happens including making the wrong purchase or having a COVID scare, etc.

We saw a show of 6 comedians, mostly doing improv and it was good! Not great but an enjoyable evening.

Together At Last Worth Every Moment
Oct 2021
My wife and I went to the Together at Last show on Friday night and it was absolutely fantastic! Was it politically charged? Partly and perfectly! We couldn't stop laughing. Witty, fun, and accurate of today's times! The sketches had us in stitches and the improv was a delight. We had high expectations and we can't stop talking about how SNL could learn from this show and reinvigorate their fan base. Way to go Second City! You knocked it out of the park!

Terrible and offensive
Oct 2021 • Friends
Saw the Improv show Saturday night. They had a skit about Mary Joseph and Jesus. It was so offensive. They drop kicked the baby Jesus doll across the stage. It didn’t stop there. It was way more about there personal life dramas than fun jokes. I thought I was being punked.

Not funny and Insulting
Oct 2021
What a disappointment. Given the history of the place, it was a bucket list destination for me. Was in town for work and had a night free so went to check it out. First, it just wasnt funny. The crowd kept trying to laugh but the skits were just lame. They just kept falling flat and would get a few chuckles. Second, they were borderline insulting to anyone who considers themselves a conservative. What has this county become where a comedy club has become a ranting soap box stage for leftist ideals. Great if you want to me some jokes about the right. Given out last president we probably deserve some. However, this wasnt even funny. It was an insulting ramble of insults and accusations including calling everyone on the right a racist and an idiot. I know the left thinks they are the woke group (arguable given what they have done to the states of CA, NY, and IL) but to just stand there and call everyone who has a convservative opinion a racist is just wrong and actually hypocritical itself. Finally, its not the right platform to do so. This is supposed to be a place of laughter. I can watch podcasts or even the news to get my fill or anger and accusations. I am there to have a good time. To use that place to spread ideals that could be insulting to the people who paid for admission (and therefore the people who work there wages) is just outright wrong. What has this country become????

Witty and funny

So much fun! My husband was scared he'd get called out, but he was safe! The show was funny and enjoyable. I'd love to see more sketch comedy there.

Save your Money
Sep 2021
The show and cast were horrible. I laughed once. Their idea of being funny was swearing a lot and being vulgar. If you are a conservative and/or catholic you will be repeatedly insulted. I spend $600 on alcohol for our group of 10 and was told to leave while we were trying to finish our drinks. We asked how much time was left before we ordered our last round and were told 30 minutes. 10 minutes later it thankfully ended. You had to show proof of vaccination to enter and then the staff jumped on you between sips of your expensive drinks. The Uber ride back to the hotel was more entertaining. Save your money.

Not the Second City it used to be.
Sep 2021 • Couples
I used to live in Chicago and had been to Second City a number of times in the 1990’s. I always had a lot of laughs at the creative and witty skits and improve, and felt that sense of awe that so many great comedians launched amazing careers form there. So on a trip back to Chicago, my wife and i booked the Happy to Be Here show as that was the only one that wasn’t booked up. There were some well written funny skits, but i’m sad to say that, overall we were rather disappointed. In short, the majority of the skits and improve ended up being purely crude and vulgar- for lack of any comedic material. Comedy and improve are hard. I get it. But when virtually every skit is a nonstop series of F-bombs and crude sexual cracks, i wondered if this is the new normal for this revered comedy club, or, was it just this cast. We are not prudes and don’t get easily offended, but when they did a skit on religion, it turned into an “F-you God, F-you christians”, it was obvious that they were simply airing personal grievances. All of the cast members are very talented and have great potential. I really hope they can do better. Service and staff were great.
