Travelling with a huge music fan, we heard about this place from an (architecture!) tour guide, and even though I'm not steeped in the history as he is, this museum/ studio/ tour was AMAZING!! Our tour guide (Jeanine?) was so connected to the Blues 'world',...More

As a blues enthusiast and sound recording engineer it was an absolute no brainier to make the effort to visit the former home of Chess Records/Studios. We arrived slightly late so missed the opening 5 or 10 minutes, and immediately started in the old studio...More

Absolutely fantastic place to visit, as good as Motown, & Muscle Shouls, better than the rebuilt Stax studio. Our tour guide knew a lot of the former singers personally, when alive, & kept our attention the whole visit. Although we knew most of what she...More

They are only open for 3 hours a day. We were sadly disappointed to find that they were closed. We got to see the garden from outside which was cool.

Excellent to see and hear start of Chess records. Tour guide genuinely loves her job. Says see still gets the chills envisioning Etta James singing in the studio. You can sense the greats walking up the rear staircase.
