This is a very important piece of our history tucked away in a very remote area of Illinois, (which you actually access from St. Mary's, Missouri). The old church next door is beautiful! Just look for it's tall steeple to find this landmark.

and even less about the surrounding area. The bell is a fascinating story but you see it through a set of doors and an iron gate fr/ about ten feet away so there is no way to see the inscriptions or ironwork nor can you...More

The method of viewing of the bell was a very good idea. Push a button and a door opens. For history buffs a very interesting place. The entire site is also of interest to those with geology background because of the river history.

It was so interesting to learn that this bell was donated by Louis XV King of France in the 1700's and that it was conservated. Very interesting place!

Probably would not have visited if we were not already in the area. Knew about Kaskaskia from the Cable show "How the States Got Their Shapes". Neat to see and say we have been there.

I'm glad to have learned about this "Liberty Bell of the West" from researching it but actually viewing it was a huge disappointment. The bell is stored in a building that looks like it has interesting displays but you are only able to see the...More

Gotta love history to enjoy this attraction. It's a little out of the way, and not much to do besides look at the bell and walk around. That being, said if you enjoy history, it is worth going. My husband and I had been wanting...More
