Sept 2018
Extremely high prices during season days
Most of the shops/shopkeepers are not locals so I did not find any special local item (cloth, decoration, food etc)
If you want to buy something special and unique of this part of the world, better to shop from Mingora/Behrain/Madyan

very undeveloped,do not expect anything like here in America. But Kalam is haven on earth. Its beautiful and if you hire local jeep and go further up to glacier and valley called Matultan. you will really enjoy it. Try to keep on road and do not go off track. Avoid taking pictures of local women or kids. Its just cultural thing.

If you want to camp , try inside the PTDC (Pakistan Tourism Development Corp) Motel.

pakistan is not what is portrayed in world press.pakistan and kalam have harmless and peacefull people too.kalam is switzerland of pakistan as called by many, with picturous freezing river flowing near by with plenty of trout fish.it has snow capped mountain with one hotel "jungle inn" on top of one of mountains.
the bazar has plenty of bbq and kebab hotels with some hotels also selling chinese and western food.the bazar has lot of handicrafts and local artifacts for decoration.
kalam with three hours drive from swat airport is the most peacefull place in pakistan to visit.

Kalam mall road is one of the great place where you can find all food stalls and hotels . Prices are bit higher similar to the Muree Mall road but people are more friendly and give respect to the visitors.
