We drove to Pellumbas from Tirana. Following fellow Tripadviser, we parked at the restaurant Pashai and we’re greeted by the owner/ manager who by the way was charming. We just wanted to walk to the river and stupidly, didn’t take his advice to take one of the boys as a guide. It’s an absolute MUST. We hiked for ages in 40C heat, found the river but did find the canyon. If you thinking of walking, TAKE A GUIDE. Beautiful walk and surroundings, regardless the heat. Well worth it.

You can find them as the path to the Pellumbas Cave.

These canyons are located along the Erzen river in Tirana. The water of this river that flows on a rocky ground for centuries has created spectacular canyons. The crystalline water and the depths of the canyons make it possible to wash or swim.
In the part where the river has a fracture about 10 m, a waterfall has been created within a cave. Before the waterfall in the canyons there are bathtubs which in the hot season are used for washing and sunbathing.

To go to these canyons, the path to the Cave of Pellumbas has to be followed, as they are beneath it on the Erzen River. By the way, the Erzen River is 108 km long, with a flow rate of 102 litres per second.
These canyons are a good choice for any adventurous spirit. Their nature has thought about everything.

The hike itself and the canyon are beautiful. The trail is not too much travelled, but is marked quite well.
Starting point: at the very end of Pellumbas village where you need to park your car. There is a restaurant and a store at this point, and the owner will be glad to explain exactly how to get to the river and the canyon. Even offered that one of his boys will guide us there, but there is no need, as the explanations are good and the trail is marked. In general start at the left side of the school, to the clear trail which goes behind the houses and then follow the white-red-white mark. For the river keep to the left, and for the canyon keep to the right. It’s ~30min one way down and then up on the way back. Not too difficult hike. The water are cold!
Same starting point to the black cave. We didn’t go there, but the guy said it’s ~45min one way.

Non ci andate!
You park in a restaurant for free, a very nice gentleman welcomes you and in English explains the situation. If you want to go to the cave and canyon go right otherwise for the river you go down to the left. According to his x the cave took 1 hour on foot, to the river 25, too bad that having chosen the river we did 6 kilometers under the sun without understanding how to get there. Once we get off x where he advised us there begin to be a series of bifurcations that either the crystal ball or I don't know what. We arrived several times above the river never understanding where to go down. Dirt road and under the sun. Basically don't go. There are other rivers much easier to visit. Maybe it's easier for the cave.

-FULL SELF TOUR GUIDE FROM TIRANA-

If you go from Tirana there are 3 buses a day, 7 am 13 pm and 18 pm from South East bus station Tirana. (Terminal Autobus southeastbound on Google).
It can be a little sketchy, you have to ask every bus driver for direction and eventually you will find your bus. Our 13.00 bus left the station around 14.30 because they were waiting for the bus to get full. So you might have to calculate with that.
The drop will drop you off at the very end of Pellumbas, at Pasha Restaurant.
The owner will come up to you and offer one of his guide to go with you. In our opinion if you want to go to the Cave AND to have a swim in the Erzeni Canyon its a MUST TAKE. He knows every single part of the hike, trust me you can get lost. You save a lot of time with a guide. Its 1000 LEKKE for the cave and back, and around 1500 for the Cave and the Canyon. For the cave you must take a very strong flashlight, your mobile wont be enough. They can give you one, or the guide will take one anyway. We finished the full hike around 3 hours with a ~20 minute swim in the river. We were going fast, you have to be fit for this hike, especially going down from the Cave to the Canyon. Overall its not a very hard hike, but sometimes it can be rocky and slippery. Would not recommend in rainy conditions. (We didnt have any special shoes, it was fine without it.)
The cave is insanely big, its slippery everywhere, but you can walk in 2-300 meters and there are many bats. But they are friendly with hikers. 😄
The Canyon is a must take imo, its amazing the mountains are amazing. The water was a little bit cold even in 40°C weather, but it was very refreshing.
After you get back to the restaurant, you can get to a bus, but the 18.00 PM bus didnt go to Tirana, only to a crossroad and we had to wait for a bus to come. Its very random. But you can ask the restaurant owner, he will gladly help you with the directions on how to get back to Tirana.
The bus cost 100 LEKKE so its very cheap.

Overall you cant really find much help on the internet for this hike, but its very doable without any paid tour. With a guide and everything you can do it for like 20 eur (not per person, but the whole hike)

Its really worth every difficulties, its a life time experience.

Hope this will help a lot of you! 😊
