If you want to see 3 million Chinook salmon smolts and gorgeous views, Rapid River Fish Hatchery is a great place to stop by on your way through Riggins, ID. The hatchery is very well kept and the park next to the hatchery is beautiful. Great place to take the family for a little tour!

A good example of Salmon recovery but you will see a bit of waste near the end of the season which bothers us. We think the fish not needed for roe should be sold to the public rather than being disposed of. Lots of people could use the cheap nourishment.

The Idaho Fish & Game employees were great. We got a personal tour and a great education on how the facility work. This is still an outdoor hatchery. We were there just before they were ready to do spawning.

It's located right along the river. You can ask for a brief tour and watch the hatchery workers feed the fish. They seem to really focus on the sustainability of the fish and I enjoyed learning how they use the water from the river to raise the fish

Interesting and fun to watch the large salmon. Staff is helpful with their explanations. It is also a beautiful drive to the site

Learn something new about the differences between native and hatchery raised fish every time I visit. Quite an accomplishment in bringing fish back to the rivers of the North West.

Great to watch the salmon in the pools if you are here the right time of year. There is a large grassy area with tables, fun to stop and have lunch. If someone is around they will gladly give you a tour of the Hatchery, but otherwise you are free to walk around and check out the pools. Fridays the... More

When you want to see the salmon cycle of life in action, visit the hatchery in these busy months. When you want to learn more about the salmon life cycle, visit later in the year when the staff can spend quality time taking you on a tour. Fish pond is stocked for free fishing to seniors on a given day... More

Very close to town. It's free & gives you an up close look at all that is involved in fish hatchery. We stood & watched the little guys jumping out of water for several minutes. Would love to be there when they are released.
