Imagine an encounter with giant dinosaurs, the fascination of seeing the actual artifacts of the first explorers to conquer the South Pole 100 years ago, or the allure of creatures that can create their own light. At the Museum of Idaho, you can surround yourself with these wonders of the world. The Museum of Idaho is the intermountain west's premier museum in providing nationally and internationally acclaimed exhibits to the surrounding areas. Showcasing both traveling and permanent exhibits, we are dedicated to preserving and educating the public in the sciences, the humanities, and the natural and cultural history.

Jan. 31 - Sep. 1, 2014

The Museum of Idaho is proud to be the 5th museum in the world to host this exhibition, which recounts one of the most stirring tales of Antarctic exploration. Filled with triumph and tragedy, this story chronicles the epic journey of two competing teams in their quest to be the first to reach the South Pole.

Sep. 26 - Nov. 29, 2014

Have you ever wondered how strange sea creatures light up the ocean? Or what makes a firefly glow? This family-friendly exhibition dives deep into the darkest corners of our earth to shed some light on this fascinating phenomena which allows creatures to produce light for communicating, camouflage, attracting prey, and for other reasons scientists still don't understand.

We love to come from Wyoming for the special, changing exhibits to augment our children's schooling and to meet up with friends from Inkom, Idaho. We are very pleased with the quality of traveling exhibits we've seen! And the local stuff is excellent, too.

For a smaller city, we boast of a wonderful museum that brings in may traveling displays that normally stay in larger cities. I have enjoyed this museum for many years and look forward to more in the future as upcoming displays sound fascinating. Currently they are doing a free Christmas display featuring some of the Santa stuff along with history... More

We saw the Pirate exhibit, which we enjoyed. On the lower level were old the Eagle Rock storefronts which were nice. Worth the price of admission.

We visited the museum on Saturday. The pirate exhibit was pretty cool. Younger kids that can't read won't enjoy it as much. The staff dressed up did try to make it exciting for them as well. They had these "audio wands" that the concept was cool but could be done much better with an app or with a button that... More

The museum is just off the main road, so easy to find. They had a major pirate exhibit when we were there, with a full history of one particular ship which sunk and artifacts that had been recovered from it. There were also sections on local history which were well presented and informative. Well worth an hour or two of... More

I have been to the Museum of Idaho several times. Curretlt "Real Pirates" is showing. One has to be very careful reading the ratings because the exhibits are changing throughout the year. The interest and quality change with them. Of course, it's not the Smithsonian. Some exhibits may be a "3" but some are a "5". The museum in Idaho... More

The kids loved this exhibit at the museum. There was a nice 5 minute video very informative, lots of displays about pirates their tools of the trade, tactics, and consequences if they were ever caught. Even had some found buried treasure on display of Silver Spanish coins. The volunteer staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Highly recommended for... More

The museum goes out of its way to make sure the visitor is not only informed but awed! The programs that are brought in are "big city" attractions! Well worth at least one trip per exhibition!! The children's room is well done with computers, instructional material..even though the kids may not know it. Dave P. Has done wonders!

A historic panorama and self guided tour is available depicting local and Idaho history with some natural history as well; in addition a special attraction visits the Museum on a quarterly basis and these are always interesting and visually entertaining for the whole family. There is also a fine little gift shop in the Museum.
