This old mission has been restored and there are many information boards explaining historical details. The parsonage is also open for self-guided tours. The state has a museum that is very modern. It is a history of the Catholic Church mission to the native Americans of Idaho. There's a $5. parking fee and $5 per person admission fee to the... More

Saw this little spot when going on vacation to Montana so we stopped on our way home. It is a nice stop to spend a little time off the freeway.

What a beautiful and unexpected treat as we drove back toward Spokane. The church is set on a bluff above the river. There is a short but scenic walk featuring information about the time period of the mission's founding. The parish house is also well curated. The church itself retains its innate beauty, though it could use an infusion of... More

This old mission church with visitor center and museum is quite a find. We saw it from the highway and decided to stop. Very interesting information on Native American tribes of the Pacific NW and the relationship with the Catholic Church. Oldest standing building in Idaho.

Entering Coeur d'lane on I-90,be sure to stop at the mission. exit 39. A 20 minute video in the visitor center gives you an understanding of how the area developed. The mission church and nearby building are open. A $5.00 fee is paid to enter the state park. A self service chair lift is available to help those who can't... More

We were on our way through Idaho from Montana to Washington. We wanted to break up the long drive and the Old Mission State Park was about mid-way on our trip so it was the perfect place to take a break from the drive. It was easy to find with an exit right off the I90. We spent the first... More

My husband had stopped several years ago and highly recommended we stop on our trip. Wowzers the church is amazing and the grounds with all the signage was terrific. So much work has gone into preserving this marvelous place. We learned so much. The gal at the gift shop was very knowledgeable and helpful. A must see if you're in... More

My wife and I stopped here on the way to GEG from Missoula and we're so glad we did. The staff here is so nice and helpful. There's a 17 minute video explaining the history of the site, and then you're free to wander around, unassisted looking at the things you just saw in the movie. Also for an extra... More

This site has great historical significance. It has the oldest standing structure in the state. The museum has a wonderful exhibit and film. The museum tries to balance the cultural history of the Natives with the influence of the Jesuits who came to the region upon invitation (the Coeur d'Alene Natives were searching for power to protect them from enemy... Describes the importance of the Jesuit Missions among the Salish Indians. Well done displays, interpretive film and artifacts from the participants. The buildings are relatively well preserved and fascinating.
