We're from the west coast where most places are dog-friendly if you have a well-behaved and especially small dog. The minute we walked onto the beach, someone tells us we might be fined $500 if they caught us there with a dog... wow, never heard that before, not sure if it's true, but we believed them because we had just walked out from the Lighthouse Museum nearby which didn't allow us to go in, even with my small 12-pound super friendly well-trained Maltipoo. Apparently the council (maybe the city maybe the museum) voted to not be dog-friendly. Well, it apparently doesn't hurt their business because they were super-packed, but I won't be visiting Tybee Beach again anytime soon. It was a wasted drive there and back because there was no place I could go with my small dog... I think maybe 2 restaurants on the entire island had outdoor seating that "allowed dogs."

Beautiful large beach. Not too busy so space to spread out. Warm luxurious water with fun to ride waves. We had a great time.

Busy during the day with limited pay to park spots. Evenings and mornings not too packed. Weekends are busier. There are 3 boardwalks from the parking lot.

North Beach is less congested than South Beach. We knew going in that Atlantic beaches just don’t compare to Emerald Coast beaches such as Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, Destin, Panama City Beach, etc. We stayed in a condo “close” to the beach. As close as you can due to the protected dunes. We really couldn’t hear the waves from the condo due to the distance but the view was nice. There are both pros and cons that can be weighed. We wanted to explore Savannah so Tybee Island was a great way to have a land & sea vacation all in one!

What a great time at the beach. We took a day from being in side the city to go out to the islands and we loved North Beach. The water can get a bit choppy if there is wind or a storm, you are looking right out into the Atlantic so it isn't protected any. The beach was large so you can spread out and it has public changing rooms and bathrooms. Which for us coming for just the day was great. It wasn't rocky at all, so it was such a delightful beach to bring a lunch to and spend the day. You can easily park a bike or pay to park a car if you drove over.

Nice beach for Georgia, but not the turquoise water of Florida panhandle. Well kept beach and no seaweed.

The Hubby and I decided to getaway and enjoy the beach. We had a marvelous time. It was tranquil and relaxing. We will visit again; a great experience.

We went to the North end. Yes we paid $3.50 an hour to park but some Florida beaches charge that much and more. The lot was small and muddy. Beach parking is paid until 8pm. Beach closes at 10pm.
The beach is pretty wide and very wide when tide is out. Tybee recently passed a no smoking ordinance for the beach so $3.50 an hour is a small price to pay for clean air at the beach.
Good belly surfing waves. Near the river mouth some people were using surf boards successfully.
The sand is not groomed but still OK except in shell pockets.
You CAN bring umbrellas and chairs. There is a boardwalk from the lot, across the dunes and to the beach.
Crab Shack restaurant is close by and a good place to (drive) eat.

Got there about 11:00am and found plenty of parking and pay to park kiosks. Not cheap to park. Beach was not too crowded. Sand and water were what you would expect on the Atlantic side. Lots of school kids while we were there. Would definitely come again if we had time.

Is there Verizon reception there? I want to visit but I have a couple of work calls I need to make in the day
Are there public restrooms for those just visiting the beach? Are they conveniently located and clean (if there are restrooms)?

My daughter and I are planning a trip mid-March and wondering whether to stay in the heart of Savannah or at North Tybee. We don’t need to venture into the water, but would love to just hang out on the beach. Is the weather conducive for that? Is there much to do on Tybee island this time of year? Thanks in advance :-)

Any time of the year is a good time to visit Tybee, my wife and I did a March visit one year and it was cool for a couple of days and then warm enough to just enjoy the beach, we just like you don't need to go into the water but rather we enjoy being able to sit on the beach and enjoy a good book or just solitude. I can't forecast weather but I would suggest staying on North Tybee to enjoy the view, Savannah is a short 20 minutes away with plenty to do. Tybee is not full of attractions which to us is a good thing. My wife and I just simply enjoy the beach (beach bums) Make sure you look at tide levels and times in order to know the good times to be on he beach.

Hello! Planning on being in Savannah for the first time over Easter break. Staying downtown at Kimpton Brice and wondering how to get to North Beach from there for a day of sunshine. Thanks in advance!

Yes. Check on Home away website. Beachfront condo, amazing sunsets from the balcony, Beach and Racquet. We loved it!
We're on the island can I go camping
There are not camp sites on the actual beach. However you can camp on the beach on little Tybee island which is a short trip by boat or kayak from Tybee back river beach.
