This being a Walking Dead Mecca to the hopelessly obsessed zombie fanatics (like myself at the time), it was a great experience to see Woodbury up close and personal. And the best part, which happened to be bitter sweet for me, was that every week-day during filming season (which I suppose is Spring into early Summer, me being there in the June of 2013) is that the actors stop in Senoia to grab a coffee or to just hang around, leading me to miss seeing Glenn and Maggie by not even 5 MINUTES. Hell, someone even ran up to me with their phone saying, "I can't believe it! I got a picture with Glenn!"

But Senoia (Woodbury) is not the only thing the area has to offer. Within a five minute to half hour drive from Senoia you can be at practically 90% of the shooting locations, majority that are open to the public.
The Church (from Season 2, Episode 1) is not even ten minutes down the road. Same for the bar (where Hershel drank and Rick shot those guys from Phillie), pharmacy (well, we all know what happened there ;), and the grain silos where Rick and the Governor met face-to-face (The silos are technically considered 'off limits', despite there is a caravan of tourists running through there literally every ten minutes, so it's honestly no big deal if you walk by the sign)

WARNING IN ADVANCE: You cannot go to the Prison or Hershel's Farm, they're both on private land and owned by AMC I suppose (I know the Prison is actually their studio as well, just the back of it was renovated to look like one).

I tried driving into the Prison, but I was stopped by an armed guard telling me to turn around. And the Farm is on the same road as the studio, so I couldn't get any farther sadly.

Final note though: YOU HAVE TO GO HERE IF YOU LIKE THE WALKING DEAD OR HAVE SOME MILD OBSESSION WITH THE SHOW. And pardon the all caps, I am not yelling, just excited.

If you are a fan of TWD this is the place for you. A quaint little place with loads of fun shops and great restaurants, you can take the show tour and spend the day taking it easy walking around "Woodbury."

A year after my first solo visit to Senoia, I decided to return to not only check out the newly opened "Nic & Normans" restaurant, but to also experience some of my favorite things to see and do a second time around. This time I brought my aunt along for the fun, she's been wanting to visit for quite awhile. In fact, she ended up loving this little town so much, that we both decided to forego spending our last day in ATL and ended up staying in Senoia for our entire 3 day visit!

For eats / coffee I recommend: The Senoia Coffee & Cafe, The Walking Dead Cafe, the Main Street Fudge and Ice Cream Shop, and definitely Nic & Normans.. such great food!!

Places to shop: If you're a Walking Dead fan totally hit The Woodbury Shoppe (and don't forget to check out their mini museum downstairs.) There's also an amazing shop called Table Talk, where you might run into a friendly adorable black cat walking around (or napping) inside this unique little store. One of my favorite shops is Beyond the Door. They have such cool art, antiques and trendy decor for sale. I made sure to purchase something to take home with me on both of my visits to this store. And theses are just a few of the shops that line Main Street..there were a few I didn't even have the chance to check out since visiting the first time.

Again for Walking Dead fans, there is the Walking Dead Walking Tour which is a 2 hour tour where they take you around town and show you where things were filmed for the series. They also share some behind the scenes info that your may not know about otherwise. I took this tour twice and still learned something new.. it's a must for sure.

Aside from everything to do, this place is such an extremely laid back, relaxed, quaint little town w/ the friendliest people you'll ever meet, delicious food and unique little shops. It's honestly like a breath of fresh air, each time I visit <3

This town is famous for the Walking Dead (AMC) series, and has appeared in the series, but also hosts the current "alexandria" town from the series. That said, there are great little shops, places to eat, and the coffee shop. There is a walking dead tour (walking tour) and the atlanta movie tours goes here too.

If I could, I'd live in this town, even though I worry what will happen once The Walking Dead is no longer a great series....maybe by then enough people will be there to support the shops...either way, cool place to visit, and great dining.

Senoia was a very sm town, until the walking dead came to town. Now Mainstream has gotten a lot bigger.
Most of it is only open from 11 am to 5 pm. And some places are not open on Monday and tuesday.
There is an official Walking Dead store, which has great product, the people working there are nice.
The Company filming the walking dead has invested in this town for being able to film there. And there are others who film there to. If your a Walking Dead fan, go visit, take the tours and learn more.

I was expecting this to be a cute, quiet little town. But no, I was so wrong. I had to run for my life on three separate occasions. But then, a man named Rick and his group of people showed up and took out all the zombies. I will be forever grateful for Rick and his group.

It takes a bit to get there, even from Peachtree City, but well worth the drive. Walk down Main Street and just look at the plaques put in the sidewalk for various films done there. Stop in the Woodbury Shop. If you follow TWD, you know why

If you are a Walking Dead fan like me, you can't go to ATL without traveling a bit further South to see this beautiful little town. Do yourself a favor and do a search for locations of the filming and take yourself on a little tour. They also have a Walking Dead store in town, but it closes early!

Senoia is, in many ways, your stereotypical "small town". One main street takes your through the heart of downtown. It's small. It's quiet. But in this downtown you will find yourself lost in the Old South, and in a town steeped with history as the Hollywood of the South.

Why has there been so much filming here? For years, Riverwood Studios has resided in Senoia. Later renamed Raleigh Studios, this powerhouse studio has attracted many big-name projects which you've no doubt seen. Walk downtown and you'll notice gold pavers in the sidewalk which outline the film history centered there. You will soon come to realize such great movies as Fried Green Tomatos, Driving Miss Daisy and Sweet Home Alabama were filmed there. Look further and you'll find that there are plenty more where that came from, including the stand-out TV show "The Walking Dead", which recently put this little town on the map. The town of Senoia was transformed into the fictional town of "Woodbury, Georgia" for Season 3. Many of the downtown businesses were used in the shooting of the series, and many buildings were "re-labeled" and transformed for the fictional town. The "Senoia Coffee & Cafe" became "Woodbury Coffee House". The masons lodge became a travel agency. Interestingly, the large building at the bottom of the street on the right side (when traveling "down" the street) is a furniture warehouse for Hollburg's Furniture (located across the street). The movie studio put false windows and doors in that building and installed signage above them....a lawyer sign hung above one door (which wont open and lead you in) as well as a florist. All for the fictional town, so as filming ceased, the signs disappeared. Across the street, in the only empty lot in the downtown area, they built a false building which became "Woodbury City Hall"...the backdrop for many scenes with "the Governor", who plays the leader of the town of Woodbury. That building was set on fire for one scene in Season 4, with the intention of keeping the majority of the building intact (for tourism) but the fire consumed the entire thing, leaving the empty lot (again).

As filming took place, the main street was closed down on both ends. Obviously the businesses needed access for the customers so rear entrances were built for that reason.

There are many great tourist "destinations" downtown. If you're a fan of The Walking Dead, stop in at the official Walking Dead store: The Woodbury Shoppe. Check out the museum downstairs, which includes part of the prison as well as Darryl's iconic "chopper" motorcycle. There are lots of great souvenirs to be had there as well. If you like home furnishings, make sure to check out "Table Talk", which has a little bit of everything, including hard-to-find items like "Poo Pourri" (to, uh, prevent "Stink" in the bathroom...enough said) as well as locally-crafted items like pottery from The Potter's Touch, a local Senoia potter named Rhodena. There are plenty of antique stores as well.

If you're interested in a great meal, check out Maguires Irish Pub, or perhaps Matt's Small Town Pizza. Zac Brown, the famous country music artist, as a non-profit foundation that provides a great youth camp locally and subsidizes a large part of it through his "Southern Ground" business in downtown Senoia: a Social Club and eclectic southern fare restaurant called La Mesa Del Sol, right next door. The Social Club often features great live music, a bar and fun casual atmosphere for "hanging out" with friends. Another great place to eat is Katy Lou's Cafe, which is run by the parents of Rutledge Wood, one of the hosts of the popular "Top Gear" show, who happens to reside in Senoia. Katy Lou's features lots of great southern home cooking and has wonderful bar-b-que sauces...their own recipes after lots of "taste testing". The food is delicious, and the people are so friendly. For something quick, the Redneck Gourmet features all kinds of foods with a "southern twist". Beyond that, there is also "Main Street Fudge and Ice Cream" which is always a great place for "dessert".

If you like architecture and homes, check out the Southern Living homes in the downtown Senoia area. The setting for the famed Southern Living Idea Home over the past few years, this town has lots of great real estate to look at. Go behind the downtown main street areas, all within walking distance, and check out the amazing historical homes, many of which have been completely restored back to their original glory.

With walking and driving tours, as well as plenty of parking, Senoia is a town just waiting for you to discover. As a resident of this town, I can attest to the friendly down-home atmosphere with an eclectic twist. You'll enjoy all that it has to offer. A great website to check out before coming is www.enjoysenoia.com

Hope to see you here! :-)
