What I great record of events and stories. This Center has a tremendous set-up for WWII and enough detailed information and activities to keep you busy for hours. Lots to learn and digest if you have a few hours (or more) to invest.

Lots of information and excellent displays concerning the USCG as well as the local efforts during WW2. Combo ticket that includes lighthouse, too is a great value. Excellent place to visit. Lots of parking available. Staff was friendly and helpful.

I learned so much about the area and about the war time activities around the islands. Great place for families to visit

I highly recommend buying the Lighthouse and Maritime Center tickets together. Both attractions are worth the money. The Maritime Center had several interesting hands on exhibits and great information.

Another rare non restaurant review, but the newly opened coast guard museum was too good a visit not to recommend. It's several years in the offing but the finished product is fabulous. In less than an hour, one finds new appreciation for the scope of our exposure to danger on the east coast, and the extent to which so many men and women threw themselves completely into the war effort in crucial roles. It's all beautifully done, and extremely informative. Good for all ages. Highly recommended.

Stopped by but the renovations are not complete. The original buildings are still there but due to the interior work, admittance is restricted.

They are currently restoring this museum to make it another history museum. It will become the World War II Home Front Museum. Slated for opening in the Fall of 2018.

We had been to the Historic Coast Guard Center several times. It was one of our favorite places that was gorgeous and beautifully restored. However, we tried visiting this summer and were told it was closed for a remodel. We tried again today only to see it looks to be PERMANENTLY closed!?! Sign out front states it will become a World War II museum!?!? I am not very clear WHY as having a WWII museum located on SSI doesn't seem to have much of a connection? Save yourself the drive and skip this CLOSED "thing to do." And hope the historical society my re-consider what this lovely building will be used for in the future.

The beach access at the Coast Guard Station was great. It was not totally deserted but we had most of the beach to ourselves. It was very pet friendly and we were there at low tide so our small dog could play in the many tide pools. There is a very large parking lot and impressively clean/large bathroom facilities with 5 outdoor showers. The beach itself did not have much driftwood/debris and is long and flat so it makes for a fantastic beach for walking.
